The Renegade Theatre

Renegade Theatre:Initiated the Theatre@Terra, a project for the promotion of Theatre and Culture in July of 2007, in collaboration with the Arts Centre known as Terra Kulture.

In it, we consistently produced highly-acclaimed theatre works weekly at the Centre without interruption for three and a half years, a feat not achieved in Nigeria since the days of JP Clark’s Repertory Theatre in the early 1980s.

Over the years, Renegade Theatre has also produced sixty-five productions at the highly prestigious arts venue, the Muson Centre in Lagos under the direction of Wole Oguntokun.

We produced the maiden edition of the culturally relevant set of Monologues known as “V Monologues  “The Nigerian Story”, loosely based on Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues.

Thereafter, we commissioned and produced ”The Tarzan monologues”, a dramatic male version of the Vagina Monologues which has been performed many times by itself and then in a dramatic “face-off” with the “V Monologues”, with male and female actors going head-to-head on controversial but always relevant issues. “The V Monologues v. The Tarzan Monologues” was also produced at the National Theatre – Ghana in October 2010.

The company created the annual “Season of Wole Soyinka Plays” now in its sixth annual showing, “The Legend Series” where ever-green plays by Nigerian legends are performed regularly and its Artistic Director, Wole Oguntokun, was official consultant to the British Council-Lagos/National Theatre- London, in the latter’s production of Wole Soyinka’s “Death and The King’s Horseman” on stage at the National Theatre London from April to June 2009.

We produced Ola Rotimi’s “The gods are not to blame” for the Muson Festival of 2006.
We have presented plays in the last three Lagos State Government-sponsored Black Heritage Festivals: Aimé Cesaire’s “A Season in the Congo” in April 2010, “The Waiting Room” written by Wole Oguntokun in April 2011 and Marco Martinelli’s “Moor Harlequins 22 Misfortunes” in 2012 .  All three productions were directed by Wole Oguntokun.

We have also collaborated with many international, Pan African and national organisations. These include: the National Action Committee on AIDS (NACA), Path Finder International, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (K.I.N.D.), the Society for Family Health (SF.H), the National Democratic Institute and the British Council.

Major Factors That Make Marriage Work

Marriage is a relationship and it takes the both individuals in it to make it work. If a blissful and romantic goal is your dream each party in marriage must take note and work on the following relationship types because they play a great role in the success of their family.
  1. RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase Job 8:6-7. You must build a solid relationship with God for your marriage to work. If you cannot relate with God on a daily basis, you cannot relate well with your spouse. God is the inventor of marriage; he has the master plan on how to make it work. He has the connecting rod that links you with your spouse. So, if you cannot connect with God, you may never connect with your spouse. To build a relationship with God in your marriage, do these:
  • Love God. If you don’t love God, you may never know how to love your spouse. Your love for your spouse is a reflection of your love for God. If you love God, you will live to please him by abstaining from all unrighteousness like: lying, adultery, malice, unforgiving tendencies, vengeance, selfishness and so on. Loving God will make you study the Bible, pray and live in peace with your spouse.
  • Serve God. This is not negotiable. Serve God personally and together as a couple. Spend time and resources doing this. Serving God wholeheartedly will make him to be committed to your marriage. Don’t be too busy to serve God.
  • Be intimate with God. Intimacy with God requires consistency in prayer, Bible study and worship. This should be a daily affair. And it requires sound discipline and dedication, the same factors needed to build intimacy with your spouse.

  1. RELATIONSHIP WITH YOURSELF
Your relationship with yourself demands that you strongly and positively develop the following aspects of yourself:
  1. Character. Your character plays a great role not only in your relationship with your spouse but also in other relationships you may have with people outside your home. Character marks your personality and it is something that can only be consciously developed. Be homely, caring, teachable, persevering, friendly, forgiving, fashionable, hardworking and self-controlling. Besides, you must develop positive communication skills; embrace the willingness to express appreciation generously, strive for sexual fidelity, and be hospitable among others. Run as from terror from adultery, laziness, violence, malice, moodiness, prayerlessness, oversleeping, greediness, perfectionist tendency, anger, night crawling and so on. Character is marriage, marriage is character.
  2. Thinking. Work on your thoughts towards your spouse. They must be positive at all times. For instance, think of what to do to make your spouse happy every day. That excludes negative thoughts because what you think determines your actions.
  3. Build your belief only on what the Bible says about marriage and not what people or traditional says.
  4. You need a sound health to build a sound marriage. Never neglect your health. Care for your body; don’t wait for sickness to strike before you attend to your body. Eat right, avoid junks; eat fruits. Exercise your body very well and rest.
  5. Self-esteem. Believe what God can do through you. Believe in yourself and your spouse. Never look down on yourself or spouse.

The Yorubas are children of Ephraim

Dear readers and viewers, somebody who reads and follows the blog sent me this article and the website and i am bewildered.i wouldn't mind if you share this article on your pages on facebook and twitter.
The honest truth is that Yorubas just like Igbos are sons of Ephraim.
Look at these short info:

Tribe of Israel: Joseph (Ephraimites);
Royal Line: King Yeroboam/Yoruba

Exile Years: 70. A.D to Present (20??)
Scripture: Joel 3:1-21, Deuteronomy 28: 1-68
Empires in Exile: Oyo, Benin, Medieval Moorish/Spanish Empire, Norte Chico, Cambeba & Others
Current Nations: Nigeria, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Trinidad, Congo, Angola, Japan
As stated in my books regarding the Igbos, the father of the Yoruba people, Oduduwa traveled with Gad’s sons, Eri, Areli and Arodi from North Africa, likely Egypt and settled in what today is known as Nigeria. This would coincide with Yoruba oral history that they believe to come from outside of West Africa and thus it would be no surprise that we might find Israelites, Hebrews and Jews among the Yoruba.

Oduduwa was said to be a descendant of Hamm, through Nimrod, also called Lamurudu, this according to Yoruba Christian Samuel Johnson in 1880. Sultan Bello, Caliph of Sokoto was quoted in 1820 by Hugh Clapperton to have said that the Yoruba people were descendants of a Canaanite tribe.  And S.O. Obiaku a Nigerian Historian claimed the Yoruba’s to originate from the Sudan or what was known as Cush/Kush (Ethiopia).

However, some say “Yoruba” is a corruption of the name “Jacob” or in Hebrew, “Yacob.” Others assert that Yoruba is from “Yerubbaal,” the “People of Baal.”
But the current Yoruba Jewish population who claim to come from the Israeli tribe of Ephraim was said to have been driven to Yorubaland from Morocco by Muslims and eventually mingled with Yoruba people. These black Jews in southern Nigeria are called the "Emo Yo Quaim", or "Strange People", by the native Africans, but these black Jews call themselves, "B'nai Ephraim" or "Sons of Ephraim". These Jews who claim that their ancestors came from Morocco is supported by their language which appears to be a mixture of Maghrebi Arabic and local Negro speech. Thus abu ("father") has become Yaaba, from the Hebrew word “Abba” and “Umm” ("mother") is “Em” from the Hebrew, "Ima". Nevertheless, most of their language is similar to the Yoruba’s around them.
These Yoruba, “Sons of Ephraim” observe certain Jewish customs, among which are the great holy days, naming of children on the 8th day, etc. In almost every way, these black Jews are like the Yorubas, and are hardly distinguishable from them, except for some outstanding Hebrew observances.

There is a clan among the Yoruba People called the "Ijeeu," or "Ijebu" which is believed to be a corruption of the word “Hebrew” or “Jew.” They are looked down upon by the rest of the Yoruba for displaying Igbo-like character and traits, one of which is business prowess. There is even a town in Yoruba land called, "Ijuee-Igbo." Much if the Ijeeu people resent and deny this connection with them and Ndi Igbo,so both the yorubas and Igbos are brothers.

Britain urges Nigeria to develop Free Trade Zones

Members of the British Parliament today advised the Federal Government to establish and develop more Free Trade Zones (FTZ) in the country as part of measures to tackle growing unemployment.
According to them, maritime facilities, especially the ones associated with FTZs, promote trade, jobs, tackle poverty and inequality, among others.
Inspecting facilities at the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) in Lagos, seven members of the parliament who came to Nigeria on trade mission, described maritime facilities as critical to economic development.
Led by a member of the parliament for Liverpool West Derby and chair of the International Development Select Committee, Stephen Twigg, the parliamentarians pledged to strengthen existing business relationship between Nigeria and United Kingdom (UK).
The parliamentarians, who were accompanied by representatives of the British High Commission, Jason Molel and private sector development adviser, Alessandra Lustrati, said projects like LADOL attracts businesses and promotes opportunities for all cadres of society.

After London’s rainbow train, rainbow taxi, rainbow bus a, things are getting a bit out of hand in the race for the gayest method of transport.

Iran Withdraws Entire Fighting Force from Syria

Iran withdraws its entire fighting force from Syria, which includes 2,500 fighters, according to reports.
The report appears to confirm remarks made by Secretary of State John Kerry, who told lawmakers that Iran had withdrawn a "significant number" of its Revolutionary Guards troops from the Syrian battlefield.

According to a reporter, the majority of Iran's forces have already been evacuated from Syria and the rest are expected to return home imminently.

The decision was made jointly by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani, but no reason for the decision was cited.

Since the start of the civil war in Syria nearly five years ago, Iran has been providing Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad with both financial aid and military advisors against a range of opposing forces.

Mexico issues alert after theft of radioactive material

Five Mexican states were put on alert after a truck carrying a container of potentially dangerous radioactive material was stolen, the interior ministry said.
The National Coordination of Civil Protection issued the warning after a company in the central state of Queretaro reported that a pick-up truck carrying radioactive iridium-192 had been stolen.
The ministry said the material "can be dangerous for people if not handled safely" and could cause "permanent or serious injury to a person who is handling or in contact with it for a short time".
Such damage could occur after contact lasting anywhere from minutes to hours, it added.

Officials said the radioactive material represented a significant health risk if taken outside its container, but was not dangerous if kept sealed.
The material, which is used in industrial radiography, belonged to the company Industrial Maintenance Center located in the city of San Juan del Rio.

HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR TALENT

To remind you that no matter how hard life gets, things can change for the better in an instant, if only you can just approach life with your gifts and talents.

Talents may be artistic or technical, mental or physical, personal or social. You can be a talented introvert or a talented extrovert. Your talents need not be profitable, useful, or conventional, but they will always be your own, a part of what makes you into you.
Learning to look for your talents in the right places and building those talents into skills and abilities might take some work, but going about it creatively will let you explore your natural abilities and find your innate talents.
Have you thought of sharing your gifts?Everyone can’t be a world class performer or athlete, but everyone does indeed have some type of talents and skills to share. If you don’t know what your talent is, you need find out what it is or just simply create it by practicing the things you enjoy.
How do you discover your talent?
1. By doing what its easy for you.
Do you have any friends who mention to you that “I wish I could do _____ as good as you do”. Does it come so naturally, that you don’t think it’s a big deal? Take a closer look, great things don’t need to come through struggle, some people are truly blessed with natural gifts, don’t take them for granted.
2. Search inside of you.
You can’t know if you’ve got a talent for guitar if you never try to play guitar. Praying will help you Find a talent that seems cool and learn everything you can about it. Find out what it takes and see what you've got. if you never try, you'll never know. You’re not going to find a talent without trying. You can only find your natural abilities, skills, and talents when you test your mettle and actively seek new experiences. Face down obstacles and seek out challenges to see what innate skills and abilities you might be hiding.
3. Meditate on what you have and take action.
Learn to go inside yourself, tune into yourself, if you learn to pay attention and know how to look, you already have all the answers to all your questions.

4.  Follow your obsessions. What are other people tired of hearing you talk about? What do you have to drag yourself away from? Use the things you're obsessed with to discover abilities and talents that might be hiding under the surface.Maybe you have a talent for telling stories, or analyzing narratives. Maybe you have a talent for appreciating camera angles. Every film critic gets a start in the exact same way. Channel that obsession into learning about film history and learning how movies are made.
5. Keep track of little successes.
If you're feeling talentless, maybe it's because you've been missing out on your own successes. Try to pay close attention to successes, both little and big, to identify things for which you might have a natural talent. Think creatively about how these little successes might connect to more significant talents and abilities.
6. Ignore the television. Shows like Nigerian idol talent auditions, project fame and other Nigerian or African Talent hunt have very narrow definitions of what it means to be talented. If you’re not an attractive young person with a manufactured sob story and a loud, showy singing voice, these shows all lead people to believe they’re untalented. It’s not true. Being talented doesn’t mean being famous, being attractive, or being some kind of performer. It means dedication, creative thinking, and attention to detail. It means you have an insatiable curiosity to develop some innate abilities into skills. You've just got to find them.
7, Find other talented people.
As iron sharpens iron, so one talented person sharpens another. If you've got a talent for something, or even if you just hope to develop talent in some field, surround yourself with other talented people and model yourself after their behaviors, practice routines, and attitudes about their talent and you will discover what you carry. Learn everything you can from talented people.

OF CYNICISM AND SARCASM .

                                                        Prof. Chris Nwaokobia Jnr.

I have observed that those some regard as wailing wailers are perhaps so addressed because they appear obsessed with anti-Buhari sentiments. To them all and everything done by this government is wrong. It is not about Nigeria but about ego and revenge. They are waiting to see the government fail and by extension to see Nigeria fail, so they can say 'but we said it' and pride in 'but we warned you'. The truth is, Nigeria under the watch of President Mohammadu Buhari and his team shall grow, prosper and progress to the utter amazement of naysayers.
The truth is that new paradigms and new values in Leadership are being etched on our national canvass such that accountability, decorum, responsible and responsive tendencies in governance shall constitute the basic minimum in governmental program and programmatic.
The truth is that corruption is being fought head on and presumed friends and foes of the present leadership are refunding monies and returning loots. The truth is that whether some consider the war selective or otherwise those being harassed have deprived the Nigerian state of her resources and by extension denied the masses and Country the necessary service and infrastructure that the looted resources were meant for.
The truth is that the multiple questions about the padding of the Appropriation Bill and the repudiation of same obtains because CHANGE is here and the dispensation of 'money to pass budget' over, this underscores the present disposition of the National Assembly to against previous tendencies get the job of cross checking the details of the budget done.
And the truth is that to move forward Nigeria needs very credible opposition with profound and effectual passion for constructive criticism not cynicism and sarcasm. It must be stated without equivocation that the good of nation should and must underline our engagements be you in government or in the opposition.

 God Save Nigeria.

East Africa Launches New E-Passport

President John Magufuli will be joining his four counterparts from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi in launching the first community travel document here on Wednesday.
The new digitalised and machine- readable East African Passport replaces the old EAC travel document, which was restricted to just the five member states. Apparently, the proposed new one is going to be as international as the current Tanzanian booklet passport, which means it will be accepted all over the globe.
Arusha will be hosting five Presidents from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and Tanzania who are set to converge here for their Heads of State Summit on Wednesday the 2nd of March 2016.

Paris police to be equipped with assault rifles

Parisian police will be given assault rifles and Kalashnikov-resistant shields in a first for the French capital's officers nearly four months after a devastating terror attack killed 130 people, the interior minister said on Tuesday. The weapons, up until now reserved for elite intervention forces, will allow members of certain police units "to intervene as fast as possible to reinforce the first patrols, notably when we are confronted with mass killings", said the minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

"Some of the criminals you are confronted with no longer hesitate to use heavy weapons against you, and you must be equipped with the means to fire back, and adequate protection," Cazeneuve told officers at a Parisian police station.
The anti criminal police unit who often mostly operate in plain cloths will be given 204 Heckler and Koch G36 assault rifles, about 1,800 bullet prof vests and 241 shields, that are resistant to Kalashnikov bullets.
The anti-criminal (BAC) police units, who most often operate in plain clothes, will be given 204 Heckler and Koch G36 assault rifles, about 1 800 bullet-proof vests and 241 shields that are resistant to Kalashnikov bullets.
The new equipment, which also includes Taser guns and other items, is worth $18m.

BRING BACK OUR CORRUPTION!!!

How can Nigeria be so big and large, yet so foolish?who do we tell that a country with over 200 million people do not know their left from right?I feel so sad as i write this but i will just share what is in my heart.Like a plague, corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigerian society and has caused untold hardship to the common man who seems to bear the wrath of his “rotten” environmental alone.
Someone sent me a post on my email and as i read it,i was shocked.
BRING BACK OUR CORRUPTION!!!

With Corruption a bag of pure water was N80,Without Corruption a bag of pure water is N150.
With Corruption dollar was N180,Without Corruption dollar is N400.With Corruption I have 20hrs electricity at low tariff,Without Corruption I have 7hrs electricity with 45% increase in tariff.
With Corruption keke marua to my house takes N50,Without Corruption keke to my house takes N100.
With Corruption smallest indomie was N40,Without Corruption smallest indomie is N60
The list can go on and on but I just have to end it
and take a stand......
#Bringbackourcorruption.
If with Corruption Dollar was N180 and without
Corruption Dollar is now N400,
You will agree with me that we need corruption in this country...

Many Nigerian youths are clamoring that corruption should come back and this is sad.Is this not a show of shame. Are Nigerian youths leaders of tomorrow or now because they are not ready .The youths have been suffering in silence and smiling while our Leaders put their future in their bank accounts and the youths are doing nothing. Now,they are crying that BRING BACK OUR CORRUPTION. After how many years of independence, Nigerian youths are yet to be practically involved in piloting the affairs of the country because corruption has eaten deep down into their systems. When you look at the number of people you have in the National Assembly, you cannot find those persons who fall within the ages of 25 to 40 and that is why i have almost given up and concluded that there may never be a future for Nigeria because the youths are not talking and because they are dead to pressing issues surrounding our nation.everyone is trying to scam each other. When will Nigerian youths break free from this grip of corruption and be responsible?.Nigeria is the only country in the world that magnify evil and call evil good, and good evil.corruption and injustice is having a field day in our nation and Nigerian youths are not doing anything but they sleeping. Look at youth unemployments, youth restiveness, kidnapping in the south, oil theft, violence from Boko Haram who are also youths, does that not show you that there is no future or is there?.If Nigerian youths do not take responsibilities for their mistakes the future of Nigeria and Africa will burn.

Tribalism will kill Nigeria if Nigeria doesnt kill tribalism

From my careful observation and keen interest on most social-political platforms on the internet and being compelled, i felt the need to put out the bare facts and am doing this not really knowing between the blue wire and the red which one to cut in other to stop the ticking time bomb in our national sphere called tribalism. Before, i continue,my boss is Hausa, my grandmum was Yoruba from ikorodu, my inlaw is Igbo and am Isoko via paternal bloodline. So am a full blooded-Nigerian to say the least.

The Igbo doesn't really hate the Yoruba and vice-versa, if there is a tribe that the Igbo detests, its the Hausa/Fulanis and its also vice-versa. Its evident that the residual emotions deposited from the post civil war still lingers and still breeding. what is happening between the Yoruba and Igbo is a transferred aggression syndrome probably for the part played by some of the Yorubas in aiding and abetting the then attack on secession."the only thing that can heal the civil war wounds is an Igbo presidency" this were the words of former head of state, Rtd Gen.Gowon who has had the greatest share of the experience during and after the war. He is definitely not far from from reality if we really sit and take a deep ride of fairness in retrospect.

The supposition of tribalism in today's Nigeria will continue to fester but hinder potential democratic tendencies looking at the status quo. Triblism reigns at its highest peak in our national reins and we cannot feign ignorance of this biting fact. I was telling a friend the other day while we were watching views from channels TV news concerning the Saraki travail how almost everyone interviewed will opine along tribal lines and it turned out true. While the peeps of the South south and South east were sighting witch-hunt on Saraki/Ekeremadu, the peeps from South west were in favor, thumbing the Buhari/Osinbajo anti-corruption project on course. But this is just a mere case study. this sequence received full bar on since the day ACN and CPC decided to merge into APC and this merger was perceived by many as having tribal undertones even though it was a brilliant political plot to topple the previous government. Votes garnered from the north and the south west would always surpass those from a combination of south east and south south and as they say, majority will have their way. Even the embrace of politicians from the south south and south eat could not really appeal to the people of these zones who unreservedly pitched their tents with the former president Jonathan largely because he was closer to them.

Bearing in mind that our nation has continually sustained on plying the path of federal character as they call it,if Buhari and his advisers from northern Nigeria must do right for the sake of a united country in this current dispensation, then perhaps this is the time to heal whatever inflicted wounds that still remains fresh since the civil war. perhaps its time to draw the people of the south east closer by wooing them and this will only take political will and forthrightness. "am for no body and am for everybody". If these words can become factual and dynamic in its workings, then we wont see what we have witnessed so far in the area of political appointments already made.Think about this, If Buhari announces today that based on his one term agreement with his party, he will start shopping for a successor from the south east, you will be amazed at the sudden best of friends he will become with them and even others from minority ethic groups. You can see its that simple to drive the nation on such a 'one love' mantra along side'change' mantra. The talk of biafra will self extinguish, there will be a feeling of oneness through out the entire federation and when this happens, our full potentials as a diverse people will shock the world in less time.

I will draw my summation with this, a house divided a against itself will not stand and will not last. there is an unimaginably great potential in us if we can harness 80percent of our diversity for we are only but harnessing 30percent. if every part of Nigeria is treated fairly and justly, if meritocracy becomes our everyday ruler and tribalism/nepotism expunged, then we can start seeing our full potentials on full swing.Yorubas are made to be wise and peace-loving so we need this wisdom and love to thrive; The Hausas love the art of fighting and we need protection; The Igbos love to be industrious, so we need this competition. The SS will continue to provide the oil, and we need this wealth. Everybody got something to offer.
