Slovakia to combat illegal labour from Serbia

As the number of Serbian illegal workers in Slovakia has increased,. Slovakia and Serbia should cooperate more in information exchange on labor market, Slovak Labour, Social Affairs and Family Minister Jan Richter said after talks with Serbian Labour Minister Aleksandar Vulin on Monday.

"Several agencies are attempting to circumvent the legislation in Slovakia by setting up branches in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Romania in order to mediate workers to be sent to Slovakia," stressed Richter.

Officially, close to 6,000 Serbian nationals currently work in Slovakia, most of whom were via staff leasing agencies.

Vulin said that his government would like to see Serbians remaining to work in their country, but conceded that everyone has the right to work abroad. "Illegal work can't be entirely uprooted, but it's possible to reduce it, and this is what we're currently working on," added Vulin.

Serbian journalist Dragan Krsnik was the first person putting attention to the problem of illegal labor in Slovakia. He worked incognito for three months in allegedly dire conditions at the Samsung plant in Galanta in west Slovakia.

7 Things You Should Know Before Moving to Germany

                                    Image result for Germany
The thought of moving to Germany can be daunting. But fret not - this article covers the essential things you need to know before moving to one of Europe’s most cultural countries - we’ll have you prepped to go before you can say kraftfahrzeughaftpflichtversicherung (yep, it’s real word).

1.       Customs: In Germany, greetings are formal and quick and they usually take the form of a firm handshake. When first entering a room, it’s customary to shake hands with everyone, one at a time, including children. A person’s title is also very important in Germany and using them properly denotes respect and good manners. You should use a person's title and their surname until you’re invited to use their first name as a means of address.

2.       Conversation: Germans don’t really do small talk so be prepared to brush up on your political or philosophical knowledge. Germans tend to be ‘ideas’ people, and are very efficient communicators, even in casual conversation. They are precise and pay close attention to detail, preferring to talk about current affairs or societal issues. Germans can sometimes appear standoffish at first but once a friendship is formed, Germans hold the relationship at great value.

3.         Footwear: Germans are active people and despite having excellent public transport, they generally prefer walking or cycling to get around. Given this fact, it’s worthwhile investing in a good, strong pair of walking shoes before setting off on a journey. Germany is a country known for its cobbled streets and stairs, so best leave the high heels at home.

4.       Transportation: Germany is known for having an excellent public transport system of trains, buses, taxis and metros. If you’re planning to be in Germany for any length of time, it may also be worth considering buying a car as German vehicles are among the most environmentally-friendly in the world. However, most people find that public transport is sufficient for travelling around the city and fuel prices can often be expensive.

5.       Weather: The weather in Germany can contrast greatly between seasons. In the summer you can expect clear blue skies and warm temperatures. In winter however, expect grey skies and a much colder climate. Depending on the time of year, make sure you dress appropriately. You’ll be pleased to know however, that most of the major festivals in Germany - such as Oktoberfest and Mardi Gras - take place in the summer months.

6.       Culture: Germans can be sensitive about issues pertaining to the Second World War, so it’s best to avoid such conversations when first meeting someone. Germans are also very environmentally-conscious and world leaders when it comes to solar energy. A huge amount of the country’s energy comes from renewable sources and German people are keen recyclers. At home, most people have separate bins for plastics, garbage and paper products. The German population are also considered to be very effective planners and pride themselves on being forward-thinking and highly organised. Even in day-to-day life, Germans carefully plan their routine as it provides a sense of security. Rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, as are cultural processes and procedures.

7.       Language: While the official language of Germany is German, you’ll find that most natives speak excellent English and many are bilingual or trilingual. In schools, foreign language education is mandatory which means that if you ever find yourself stuck for words, there should always be someone around to help. However, it can be worthwhile learning some basic German as it will undoubtedly help in the long run. Unusual for a European language, German has some impressively long words - the word kraftfahrzeughaftpflichtversicherung, for example, means ‘car liability insurance’ and donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitaenswitwe is the ‘widow of a Danube steamboat company captain’ – honestly!

Preventing tax fraud and stopping multinationals from seeking out tax havens are important issues for Poland and will be discussed at a G20 summit later this week, Polish Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

. “We want medium-sized countries as well as smaller countries, which we represent … not to be avoided for tax,” Morawiecki told Polish Radio.

According to Morawiecki, Bermuda has the third-highest number of EU investment, “because it is a tax haven, to which many companies are unfortunately going … to pay lower taxes”.
The finance minister, who is also Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister, said billions zÅ‚oty in tax was not being paid into the Polish budget.

“Eight years ago, when the [governing] Law and Justice [party] was finishing its rule, the level of corporate tax was PLN 33 billion (EUR 7.6 billion),” he said, adding that today it was PLN 26-27 billion, some 15 percent less than eight years ago, while profit and turnover has doubled in that time.

“The tax should be PLN 20 billion higher, but is it PLN 5 billion lower,” Morawiecki said.
Poland is among several countries which have been invited to join the 20 most important global economies at a two-day summit which starts in Baden-Baden, in southwestern Germany, on Friday.

Doctors in Kenyan public hospitals have ended their three-month strike following their signing of a return to work agreement with the government.
The agreement addresses issues of pay, working conditions as well as allowances.

This was in protest to the jailing of seven medical union officials for refusing to call off the strike in the public health sector.

Oklahoma state Sen. Ralph Shortey is under investigation by the Moore, OK police after he was caught in a Super 8 Motel room with a minor boy.

“On March 9 … officers of the Moore Police Department were contacted in reference to a welfare check at a local hotel,” Lt. Kyle Dudley told reporters. “Responding officers found a juvenile male in a hotel room which was also occupied by an adult male. The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation and no additional information can be released at this time.”

An employee of the hotel confirmed to KOCO that a man named “Ralph Allen Shortey” checked in at approximately 12:20 a.m. asking for a room with two beds. Just 30 minutes later the police arrived responding to a “welfare check,” though no one has come forward admitting to the call.

No one has been arrested and no charges have been filed, but text messages between the boy and Shortey are being investigated by police. Shortey’s legislative office door was found to have a note saying that he would be gone for the week.

Shortey was the chair of President Donald Trump’s campaign during the primary elections.

A petition saying a second Scottish Independence referendum "should not be allowed to happen" has reached 113,000 signatures.
The petition, on the Government's official website, could put a spanner in the works for Nicola Sturgeon, as it is growing by the minute.

It has reached the 100,000 signature threshold and now the Government must consider it for a debate.

It says: "Another Scottish independence referendum should not be allowed to happen.

"We in Scotland are fed up of persecution by the SNP leader who is solely intent on getting independence at any cost. As a result, Scotland is suffering hugely."

"We in Scotland are fed up of persecution by the SNP leader who is solely intent on getting independence at any cost. As a result, Scotland is suffering hugely."
Despite the fact people from across the UK can sign the petition, it is by far the most popular in Scotland.

Alex Salmond's constituency has one of the highest volumes of signatures.
1,778 people in the former leader of the SNP's constituency have signed the petition.
This comes as the majority of Scottish voters wish to remain in the British union, despite Nicola Sturgeon's latest demands for a Scottish referendum, according to the latest polling from YouGov.

Some 57 per cent of Scots would vote No in an independence referendum, according to the poll, although younger people aged 18-24 were overwhelmingly in favour of independence.

Austria sees exports rise to record levels

The Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB) said the boost came on the back of growth of bottled wine sales, which command more of a premium, and this helped make up for the smaller volume harvest the country has seen over last five year.

The volume of bottled wines grew by 1.8m L during the year, contributing an extra €5.2 million it noted, and the average price per litre on exports also rose to €3.05 per litre. Meanwhile, bottled ‘Qualitätswein-grade’ white wines saw growth of more than €6 million.

However the AWMB noted that momentum has slowed over the last five years as a result of a series of smaller than average harvests.

Key growth markets included the USA, which saw growth of nearly 12%, taking it past €12 million for the first time, along with Switzerland Norway, Canada, Hong Kong and Australia.

Within the EU, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Finland, Denmark, Slovakia, Poland and Ireland saw the most noticeable increases, the AWMB said.

Speaking at the launch of Vinexpo Explorer in January, Willi Klinger, md of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB) said he wanted to see the value of the country’s wine exports grow by more than a third within the next five years, from around €143m in 2015 to €200 by 2020.

Klinger said the country could “easily” sell 10mL more wine into the export market even though it was not a “big volume” producer market.

The UK, which has one of the highest price per litre, more than double that of its biggest market, Germany, is one of its key growth markets, Klinger said, as distribution of Austrian wine has grown in the UK market.

Vinexpo’s chief executive officer Guillaume Deglise said Austria, which will host the inaugural Vinexpo Explorer programme in September, was one of the “hottest rising destination” for wine.

BREAKING NEWS:Nigerian Senate rejects Magu as EFCC Chairman

The Nigerian Senate has again rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, after the State Security Service, SSS, reaffirmed its position that the nominee lacks integrity to lead the country’s anti-corruption agency.
Mr. Magu was rejected on Wednesday, after appearance before the Senate for his confirmation hearing during which Dino Melaye raised the SSS report dated March 14.
“In the light of the foregoing, Magu has failed the integrity test and will eventually constitute a liability to the anti-corruption stand of the current government,” the SSS report, read by Mr. Melaye, stated.
Although Mr. Magu had answered to the satisfaction of lawmakers earlier questions he was asked, senators challenged his suitability given the report against him by the SSS.
Mr. Magu questioned the credibility of the SSS which he said dispatched two reports on him with varying contents same day.
“What do you say about credibility of that agency?” he queried.
It was reported in December how the SSS had earlier submitted two contradictory reports, one approving Mr. Magu’s confirmation and the other asking he be rejected.

The Senate had then rejected Mr. Magu’s confirmation based on the latter report.

Unemployment in Britain hits 41-year low- Info

Image result for Unemployment in Britain
Britain's unemployment rate has struck the lowest level for more than 41 years, official data showed on Wednesday as the country prepares to trigger its exit from the EU.

However a drop in the jobless rate comes alongside news of slowing wages growth.

Unemployment for the quarter ending January 31 fell to 4.7 percent from a rate of 4.8 percent in the final three months of 2016, the Office for National Statistics said in a statement.

"The unemployment rate dropped to 4.7 percent in the three months to January 2017... It has not been lower since June to August 1975," the ONS said.

Analysts' consensus forecast had been for an unchanged rate of 4.8 percent, which would have kept unemployment at an 11-year low point.

"The labour market is currently seeing decent improvement, reflecting the economy's resilience through the second half of 2016," Howard Archer, chief UK economist at IHS Markit, said in reaction to Wednesday's data.

"However, markedly slowing earnings growth reinforces the squeeze on consumers coming from rising inflation - and this is likely to increasingly weigh down increasingly on economic activity."

It comes as British Prime Minister Theresa May intends on starting the EU withdrawal process by the end of March.

Parliament this week approved a bill empowering the government to trigger Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty, starting a two-year countdown to Brexit.

Trump envoy holds fresh talks on Israeli-Palestinian conflict

A top adviser to US President Donald Trump held further talks on the Middle East conflict Wednesday, meeting Israeli President Reuven Rivlin as he seeks to restart negotiations with the Palestinians.

Jason Greenblatt, Trump's special representative for international negotiations, met with Rivlin after holding talks with Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the week.

Rivlin's spokesman said the president, whose role is mainly ceremonial, told Greenblatt the "building of confidence between Israelis and Palestinians was a first and critically important step toward any possible solution."

Greenblatt thanked Rivlin for his thoughts on how Israelis and Palestinians could live side by side, a statement from the president's office said.

He was expected to visit a Palestinian refugee camp and meet religious leaders before leaving on Thursday.
Before the visit, US officials said he was seeking to lay the groundwork for renewed peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.
A US consulate statement on the meeting with Abbas on Tuesday evening said the two men reaffirmed their commitment to a "genuine and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians."

"President Abbas told Mr Greenblatt that he believes that under President Trump's leadership a historic peace deal is possible," the statement said, adding that Abbas committed to tackling Palestinian incitement.

Canadian Solar has secured power purchase agreements (PPAs) for an aggregate 80MWac of solar power projects with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a public sector undertaking of the Government of India.

Canadian Solar was awarded these projects under a 450 MWac solar capacity tender in the state of Maharashtra, through a competitive auction process.
These projects are scheduled to commence operations by late 2017 and will generate clean solar electricity for SECI over the next 25 years.

"We are pleased to secure our first 80 MWac of solar power projects with SECI, a bankable and reputable off-taker operating under the Government of India.

This investment adds to our India pipeline that stands at 110 MWac and represents a significant milestone for Canadian Solar in one of world's fastest growing renewables markets," commented Dr. Shawn Qu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Solar.

Russian military forces begins training in Egypt

Russia has apparently deployed military forces to a base in western Egypt, a US official said Wednesday, a sign Russia could be increasing its involvement in nearby Libya.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters that Russia appears to have deployed special operations forces to an air base at Sid Barrani, which is located about 100 kilometers (60 miles) east of the Libyan border.

The official said the American military is monitoring the situation closely.

A Western diplomat, who also requested anonymity, confirmed reports that Russian forces are now at a western Egypt army "facility."

The move comes after forces of eastern Libya's military strongman Khalifa Haftar this month conceded the loss of a key oil export terminal they seized last year in ongoing fighting for the country's resource wealth.
