THE SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE

I find it a great pleasure to write this article on the spirit of excellence because it is one of my core values in life, I have gotten to a point that if it is excellent, then you’re talking about me. I learnt this value from one of my few worthy mentors who I have known from inception to be excellent in all that he does. God has given man the power of choice and interestingly, most people take the easy way out. If you will imbibe excellence as one of your values, you must be ready to give it what it takes.
I remember some years ago when I used to give excuses for not delivering in due time or in an excellently way and my mentor will tell me that anyone who is good at generating excuses can’t be good at anything else. It used to be as if a hot iron was passed through my mind and I’ll feel very bad but those words helped me to become resolute about adopting excellence as a value for myself. Then, I decided to stop giving excuses and taking responsibility, also to go the extra mile of ensuring that I produced outstanding results compared to others in my field of endeavor.
Excellence is producing outstanding results at an unusual degree consistently and that became my watch word. I read about Daniel, a man who produced outstanding results at an unusual degree consistently in the bible. Four kings came, reigned and left the palace but Daniel remained relevant there because excellence makes you relevant and keeps you on the kings network bracket. When his opposition even tried to find a fault against him, they concluded themselves that they will never find a fault against this man Daniel. Can you imagine that they used a present continuous statement(we will never find) to qualify their conclusion about Daniel.
Decide today to produce results at an unusual degree consistently and you will realize that you will remain relevant to those who matter. The heart of the matter is a matter of the heart. We produce some television and radio programmes and some of those clients have stuck with us for over eleven years because they know that with us, they will get an excellent job home or abroad and don’t have to think twice about the quality of our delivery.
You must decide today to be excellent in everything you do, it may not pay on the short run but it surely will pay on the long run.

Family Communication Styles

Although communicating with family members may seem complex at times, family communication styles can be broken down into two major constructs: clearness of the message and directness of the communication. There are four basic communication styles: clear and direct, clear and indirect, masked and direct and masked and indirect. Clarity in communication refers to how easily a message is understood, while directness refers to whether the message is spoken directly to the person for whom it was intended.
 
 Clear and Direct Communication

Clear and direct communication is considered the most healthy form of communication in families. Clear and direct communication occurs when a message is stated plainly and directly to the person for whom the message is intended. An example of clear and direct communication is a statement such as "Honey, I'm so proud of you for completing your homework early.

Indirect Communication

In  indirect communication, a message is clearly communicated, but the person for whom the message is intended is not clear. This type of communication in a family can be problematic, because the message may be generalized to multiple family members. "I'm disappointed that the dishes weren't washed tonight" sends a clear message, but does not address directly the person for whom the message is intended.

Masked and Direct Communication 

Masked and direct communication occurs when a family member is directly identified, but the message communicated is not. Masked communication may be viewed as passive-aggressive, because it vaguely discusses concerns without directly addressing them. If you are upset with your son for not cleaning his room, stating "Son, some people just don't know how to keep their home clean" clearly identifies that you are speaking to your son, but does not clearly state your message.

Reframing

The key to effective communication is realizing when you are using an ineffective method of communication and then reframing your statements to be both direct and clear. Indirect and masked styles of communication can lead to confusion and frustration within your family. Whenever possible, reframe your statements to be both clear and direct to avoid confusion and frustration due to miscommunication.

World’s First Successful Head Transplant Operation recorded

A 36-year-old man has undergone the world’s first successful head transplant. The ground-breaking operation took a team of surgeons 19 hours to complete and has allowed the patient to be cancer-free.
Paul Horner, who was diagnosed with bone cancer five years ago, was on the verge of death when he was approved for the controversial and possibly deadly operation.

Doctor Tom Downey, who was part of the South African team who carried out the operation, told CNN he is thrilled about the results. “It’s a massive breakthrough. We’ve proved that it can be done – we can give someone a brand new body that is just as good, or better, than their previous one.
The success of this operation leads to infinite possibilities.”
Surgeons at Charlotte Maxexe Johannesburg Academic Hospital in SA did the operation in February but had to wait until they could confirm it was successful before they made any public statement.
Downey spoke to reporters on the complexity behind the first ever head transplant. “This procedure is another excellent example of how medical research, technical know-how and patient-centered care can be combined in the quest to relieve human suffering.”
The operation was led by Professor Myron Danus and took place on February 10, 2015.
“Our goal is for Horner to be fully functional in two years and so far we are very pleased by his rapid recovery,” said prof. Danus. “Before the operation, Horner’s body was riddled with cancer and he had less than a month to live. We were fortunate enough to find a donor body; a 21-year-old man who has been brain dead from a serious car accident that happened in 2012. The boys body worked just fine, but his brain was not functioning whatsoever, and there was absolutely no chance of recovery.
He added: “We received approval from the young man’s parents to use their sons body to do the operation. They were extremely happy their son could save a life even in the vegetated state that he was in.”
The man, Horner, has made 85% recovery; walking, talking, doing things a healthy individual does…
