6 Holiday Habits That Drain Your Wallet

Bad habits can creep into our holidays. Too much food or egg nog. But some habits hurt financially. Beware of these 6 holiday habits that drain your wallet.

You’re Hosting The Holiday Dinner

Cramming as many friends and family around the dining room table is a holiday tradition. Whether you’re hosting Christmas Eve, Christmas or Festivus, it can be a very pricey affair. A decent turkey alone can run about $50. That might be more than half of your food budget for the whole week!
But nothing is set in stone and just because you’ve always done it doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it or even that anyone likes it! Maybe there’s a reason we only eat turkey once or twice a year!
Going Italian with a nice lasagna will be a lot cheaper than carving up a turkey with all the side dishes. Speaking of side dishes, you can always fill out the table by going potluck. Why should the host be stuck doing all the cooking? When people ask what they can bring, tell them!
When you get right down to the reason for the dinner, it’s not really about the food but the company. Do you even remember what you ate at your last holiday dinner, or do you remember what a good time you had catching up with everybody?

You’re Travelling

If traveling is part of your holiday plan, hopefully you have already booked your tickets. Nearly all airlines charge for checked luggage so do what you can to travel only with hand luggage.
Don’t pack gifts and if you do, don’t wrap them. They will probably be unwrapped by security. The TSA miss 95% of fake bomb and weapons during security tests but they’ll open your nieces’s Candy Land game! Buy, wrap, and mail the gifts before you leave or even better, order absolutely every gift from Amazon and you won’t have to bother shipping or wrapping.
Check out the cheapest options for ground transportation to and from the airports. Cabs and car services cost a fortune and can add on a lot to the cost of your trip. Check for shuttle services. They may not drop you off exactly where you want to go, a lot of times they pick up and drop off at hotels but since most airports are removed from the city center, it might be cheaper to take a cab from the hotel to your destination and do the reverse when you fly back.
Don’t buy food and drinks in the airport. You know they’re going to gouge you. Bring an empty bottle from home for water and throw a banana and some almonds in your bag. You won’t starve if you don’t eat for a few hours. You’re going to spend the entire trip eating! Fast while you can.

You’re Going To Self-Gift

The closer we get to Christmas, the more the prices are going to drop. That includes in stores and online. Can you resist the temptation to self-gift? Finding a bargain that is perfect for you could punch a hole in your gift-spending budget.
Instead of buying things for yourself, drop some good hints with your family. Those hints can include subtle things like a printout of the item, a map to the store and a Starbucks gift card for hot chocolate as an enticement. People will be grateful. Do you enjoy wracking your brain trying to figure out what to buy for someone? Well, they don’t like doing it for you either. At least wait until after Christmas to treat yourself because they’ll be plenty more bargains – especially online – and you might be armed with gift cards.

You’re Going To Splurge On An Outfit

If you’re invited to a fancy holiday party, you might want to splash out on a new outfit. Before you go crazy, think about how many times you’ll be able to wear that outfit again. We’re talking about amortizing the cost. If that outfit is going to be a one-off, then you’re not going to get a good return on your investment.
A little black dress is a good investment. A hot pink ball gown, show stopper that it may be on New Year’s Eve, is not. It’s much cheaper to buy a few inexpensive accessories, necklaces, a silk scarf, a brightly colored clutch, to dress up the LBD than to invest in an entirely new outfit for each occasion.

You’re Going To Buy Extra Gifts

Don’t you hate it when you get a gift from someone you didn’t buy a gift for? Now you’ve got to scramble to come up with one for them. You know this is going to happen, it happens every year. So plan ahead. Everyone has a kitchen and everyone likes to eat and if you stick with that theme, your gifts can be uni-sex. Tea towels, a set of wooden salad spoons, a small container of fancy salt of vinegar are all pretty generic, but still appreciated gifts.

You’re Going To Pay Credit Card Interest

A few days after the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, you’ll put away the decorations and let out a huge sigh of relief. The holidays are over and you survived. Then the credit card bills start drifting in and the blood pressure rises in correlation to the interest charges you’ll be paying.
You know how some people go on a food or booze “detox” in January to make up for all of their holiday debauchery? Well, that’s what you’re going to do only yours is a spending detox. January is the perfect time for it. It’s cold and miserable out, no one is having any parties, there are no gift buying or dinner having holidays.

French official to visit Israel to push peace confab

                                                   Pierre Vimont

France’s special envoy for its initiative to renew Israeli-Palestinian peace talks will visit Israel next week in an effort to advance plans for a regional peace conference this summer, the French Embassy in Israel announced Thursday.
Pierre Vimont, the French Foreign Ministry envoy “for the preparation of the international conference to renew the Middle East peace process,” will arrive in Israel on Sunday for two days of meetings with officials in Ramallah and Tel Aviv.
The international summit is scheduled to take place in June or July, over Israeli complaints that peace negotiations should take the form of direct talks.

Poverty is Political. You CANT Reduce Poverty Without Politics

Wealth is Political. Poverty is political. Politics decide who would be rich and who will be poor. Literary.
When the Normans invaded Britain, they imposed their language and distributed the land to their aristocrats. Today the Normans don’t own any land in UK.
When Mugabe took power, 80% of Zimbabwe lands were owned by few White English men. Today the situation had changed. Mugabe gave the lands back to their rightful owners.
Until Gowon, Nigeria oil was owned by few white men from Britain and France. Gowon – an evil guy – nationalized Nigeria oil, creating by the way a bunch a local millionaires and crooks.
If there are a lot of private money in Nigeria, compared to any other country in Africa, it’s because of that single political decision.
It’s possible that logic was behind Mandela calculations. He convinced the European terrorists in South Africa to concede political power to Africans, but temporary keep the economical power.
Before Mandela, there were no African millionaire in South Africa, but only famous political prisoners. Now there are even African billionaires there.
I think what happened in Zimbabwe will happen in South Africa too. The South Africans will use, soon or later, the political power to take back their lands and economy.
Wealth is political. Political change usually bring radical change in wealth distribution, unless you elect house negros.
Poverty too is political. Politics decides who is poor and who is rich. You can NOT reduce poverty without politics.
Reason why, You must always first seek political power, and then the economical kingdom will be yours.
That’s the lessons history had in store for us. This has nothing to do with your petsonal feelings. So just keep them to yoursel.
For all the stupid and small minded people who despise politics – “I don’t do politics” types-, I’d advise you to reflect on the reason why business men invest so much in corruption, lobbying, and political elections.
Wealth is Political. Poverty is political. Politics decides who would be rich and who will be poor. Literary.

North Korea Claims to Have Mini Nuke Warhead

North Korea says it has miniaturized nuclear warheads so that they can be placed on missiles.
If true, that would give North Korea the capability of launching nuclear attacks against other countries.
The communist regime claims it can strike the United States, although some experts question that.
The North also claims it tested its first hydrogen bomb in early January.
That was followed last month by the launch of a rocket that put a satellite into orbit. The launch violated U.N. resolutions because it employs dual-use technology that could also be applied to long-range ballistic missiles. North Korea's development of smaller nuclear weapons and long-range missiles has long been a matter of concern and could shake up the security balance in Asia.

Repeated studies have shown that the presence of a gun boosts the risk of gun-related violence in the home.
2.7 times increased risk of homicide
4.8 times increased risk of suicide Men are more likely to be homicide victims overall, but women are over 3 1/2 times more likely to be killed by an intimate partner compared to men.
In 2005, about 40% of female homicide victims ages 15-50 were killed by a current or former intimate partner. Guns were used in 55% of those cases.

MORE GUNS, MORE SAFETY?

243 is the average number of justifiable firearms homicides, such as the shooting of a home intruder, between 2005 and 2010 2.1% is the proportion of all gun-related homicides
A 1998 study showed that for every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.
Individuals in possession of a gun at the time of an assault are 4.46 times more likely to be shot in the assault.

IN THE RIGHT HANDS?

Strong gun regulations aren't always paired with strict enforcement. 2 out of 5 guns sold in the U.S. are without background check.

Spirit filled Prophet surves death after confronting lions

A Zion Christian Church prophet who was filled with the Holy Spirit recently ‘challenged’ a lion to do battle in the Kruger National Park. Prophet initially charged towards the lions, but they called his bluff and charged back.
Prophet Alec Ndiwane who is based in the Pretoria Soshanguve was with fellow church members in the Kruger National Park where they were watching animals. It is believed the prophet went into a trance and started to speak in tongues. Ahead of them was a lion pride busy eating their impala.

Alec must have thought he was the biblical Samson as the prophet opened the car door and went charging towards the lions. Upon seeing the man running towards them, the lions could not believed that manna was coming straight from heaven and instead ran towards the prophet.
He then came back to his senses as he quickly realised this was not going to end well and made an immediate turn and ran back to safety. But before he could safely reach the confines of the car, one lion had snapped its paws on him thus causing major damage to his toilet sitting tool. Also thanks to the game ranger who was near who fired some shots with his gun to scare the lion away.
So severe was the lion paw injury that Alec had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. The man was fearing he would lose his bum but the doctor’s assured him he would still have his left bum intact.

Thai hotel group Minor extends overseas diversification

Having completed its largest-ever acquisition in February, Thailand's hotel and restaurant conglomerate  Minor International said Wednesday it plans to generate half of its sales abroad by 2020, up from 44% in 2015 and 18% in 2008.
In February, the company acquired Tivoli Hotels and Resorts, a Portugal-based chain of 14 properties, for 294.2 million euro ($322 million). It believes it can expand the Tivoli brand into other markets Minor is already operating in, such as Asia, Africa or the Middle East.
Including the Tivoli deal, Minor has spent $550 million over the past two years on hotel projects in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America and Europe to diversify away from what was a Thailand-centered portfolio. Currently, 66% of the group's hotel revenue is from outside Thailand, against only 6% in 2008.
Bangkok accounts for just 12% of current revenue, helping the company mitigate the impact of political developments such as the anti-government rallies that blocked the capital's streets from late 2013 and the military coup that followed in 2014.
Hotels and residential properties, covering both business and tourist markets, account for 50% of Minor's revenue. Most of the remaining half comes from restaurant operations, an area in which the company has also aggressively expanded overseas.
