Queen Idia on PEFTI film institute stage

May 2016 was a landmark in Bini Kingdom history: His Royal Highness Eheneden Erediauwa, the Edaiken N’Uselu, was presented to the public as the next Oba, and PEFTI Film Institute performed Don Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki’s Epic Play, IDIA.

History came alive. The Strength of the African Woman was celebrated, as Queen Mother Idia led an army of 10,001 slaves and bronze-smiths to war, on the stage of PEFTI Film Institute.

The audience laughed, and wept, as the romance, tragedy, comedy and bravery of the Ancient Bini Kingdom was portrayed by a large cast of PEFTI Film Institute Students.

The performance was two-fold: a matinée for Secondary School students of Binta International School Ajao Estate, Gbolahan Preparatory High School Ajao Estate, and  Binta International School Ejigbo; and a Command  Performance which was well attended by notable individuals, including Laurent Polonceaux, Consul Général, Consulate of France; Aurélien Sennacherib and Laurre Kesler, also from the Général Consulate of France; Mr. Joe Bankole of News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN); Mrs. K.A. Akinyede and Ewuzieh Ven Paul, from National Council Of Arts & Culture; Mr Omolade, Representative of the Director, National Troupe; Mrs Pauline from Alliance Française; Mr Femi Durojaiye representing Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Mr. Sanyaolu Onatayo, APC Youth Leader Lagos State; and Izogie Tracy from Native Media.

Mr Laurent Polonceaux, Consul Général, Consulate of France, called the performance “Extraordinary“, and veteran Actor Mr Femi Durojaiye, representing Actors Guild of Nigeria, said, “The Play was Mind-Blowing”.
