Cinematography Tips For Horror Filmmakers

Horror is a very specific genre that calls for some unique lighting techniques. These five cinematography tips will make just about any horror film more stylized and effective.

Horror films are all about tone, texture, and mood. Unlike many other genres that rely more heavily on other elements (dialogue, plot points, etc.), great horror films are all about style. That’s not to imply that a great horror film shouldn’t also have excellent dialogue and a great plot, but rather that those elements often take a back seat to the immersive mood and experience that a great horror film delivers.
The two most important elements in creating that mood are sound design and cinematography, the latter being what we’re going to focus on here. Unlike lighting a comedy or drama, more rules can often be broken when shooting a horror film, and in many cases that translates to a more effective final product.
If you plan on shooting some horror material in the future, then this article is for you. The five cinematography tips listed below will serve as some fundamental guidelines that you can follow throughout your time on set:

1. Shoot Through Things

Some horror filmmakers are drawn to extreme closeups, but in my opinion doing the exact opposite is far more effective. Rather than always filling up your frame with your actors faces (just because it looks intense), challenge yourself to go wider.
Imagine a scene where an actor is sitting alone in their kitchen. An extreme closeup on their face may show us some added emotion, but a wide shot taken from outside the house (looking in) could be far more powerful. Not only are you showing the isolation of the character, but you’re also creating a voyeuristic and unsettling feeling by shooting through a pane of glass, which is a technique that can be very effective under the right conditions.

2. Underexpose

As DPs, we have it drilled in our heads to always expose perfectly. We have more tools than ever (both in camera and otherwise) that enable us to nail our exposure. Though, in some cases, that isn’t what’s going to serve the story most effectively. On a horror film, underexposing can be extremely effective as it’ll leave more areas of the frame in the shadows and create a more mysterious feeling.
Although you could technically expose normally and just color grade your footage to darken it in post, the end result won’t be quite the same. You want to actually light your scene in a way that feels organically underexposed, and bring that out even more in the grade. Don’t push things too far though, or you won’t be able to bump it back up in post if needed. About a stop of underexposure is all you need to set the tone.

3. Use Haze

Using a tasteful amount of haze (or fog) can add a lot of texture to your scene. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book, but it’s still used on nearly every set (and for good reason). There’s absolutely no substitute for the look and feel that haze can bring to your scene, and it’s especially effective when it comes to the horror genre.
Use a hazer or fog machine to add just a touch of haze to your scene, and be sure not to go overboard. A little bit of haze will go a long way, and much like underexposing, it can really help to set a unique and mysterious mood to your scenes.

4.Don’t Be Afraid of Colored Gels

I almost always avoid using colored gels when shooting, unless I’m using them to correct the color temperature of a light (for example, balancing tungsten to daylight). That said, if I’m ever going to use them, it’s on a horror film, as that’s one of the only genres where I feel they can work exceptionally well.
Red gels in particular can be really effective for horror, as the color red can inherently make your viewers feel unnerved. Avoid using colored gels in the way that a photographer might (such as on the rim light) and instead use them on your key. Let’s say you’ve got a scene that takes place in a dark hallway of a club. If your key light has a red gel on it, it will bleed over the faces of your actors and create a really stylized look. Again, know when to use this and when not to. If you mix colored gels with regular lighting (or natural light) you may just wind up with a strange looking image.

5. Find Unique Angles

The most obvious example of a unique angle that works well for horror is the dutch tilt, though just about any unconventional angle can help play into the vibe of your film. Much like the other tips on this list, you want to use your camera angles to create an unsettling feeling within the viewer, and the best way to do that is to create an image that looks off balance. That’s why the dutch tilt works so well.
Other examples would be a bird’s eye view or a very low angle shot looking up. Both of these are unique perspectives that we rarely see on film, and can really help to jolt the audience into the headspace of the characters. Always be sure that whatever extreme camera angle you’re going for still suits your scene, as the last thing you want is to stylize a scene or moment in a way that isn’t true to the story.

Improve Your Finances- 10 ways

Image result for Improve Your Finances
If you want to put yourself on a path to build wealth throughout the year, then consider these 25 steps, all of which are designed to help you rein in spending and work toward greater financial security. They include both offensive moves, like saving more, as well as defensive ones, like protecting yourself from identity thieves.
1. Set your goals early and share them.
Sharing financial goals with friends – and even strangers through social media – can help you articulate just what those goals are and also hold you accountable. Indeed, research on goal-setting suggests that making public statements about goals helps people commit to them, whether they be money or health related. As 2016 kicks off, consider sharing your goals on Facebook, Twitter or a social goal-setting site like Linkagoal.
If you're stuck, flipping through images can help inspire and focus goal-setting, says Ellen Rogin, a financial services professional and co-author of "Picture Your Prosperity: Smart Money Moves to Turn Your Vision into Reality." She encourages people to flip through motivational images such as beaches and sailboats when planning their retirement. This exercise is especially useful for partners to make sure they're on the same page.
2. Guard against identity theft.
Identity thieves can steal not just your money but also your identity, which allows them to create new, fraudulent accounts in your name. The cost can add up to tens of thousands of dollars as well as hours of your time trying to rectify the situation.
One of the most common online identity theft methods is for an attacker to send an email with a hyperlink that leads victims to an official-looking site that requests personal information. People can be fooled into sharing their names, addresses, credit card numbers and even Social Security numbers this way. To keep yourself safe, avoid clicking on unfamiliar URLs sent to you via email, even if at first glance they appear to be from your bank or a retailer.
3. Get more out of your workplace benefits.
If you're lucky enough to have a job with benefits, then it pays to make sure you're getting as much out of them as possible. Aside from salary, take a close look at available retirement accounts (making sure to pick up any matching benefits), flexible spending accounts, financial literacy programs and wellness support, which can include free counseling. Health insurance and disability insurance can also help protect your finances in the long term.
4. Use tools to help you save more.
Apps can make it easier to protect bank accounts from fraud and save more money, and it can pay to use them. Some of the best entrants in the field include BillGuard, an app that flags potential fraudulent charges or errors, and Key Ring, which collects your loyalty cards digitally, so you can snag savings even if you leave your cards at home.
Other useful financial tools include PriceGrabber and RedLaser, which help you quickly compare prices when shopping online or in stores, and PriceBlink, a browser add-on that lets you know if there is a lower price elsewhere online. Mint offers a free budgeting tool to help you track your spending, and You Need a Budget is another good option.
5. Become more financially literate.
Financial literacy is a key factor when it comes to adults building wealth over time, according to research at the University of Massachusetts. If people understand basic concepts when it comes to saving, investing and compound interest, then they are more likely to sit on a significant nest egg as they get older. That's why making an effort to educate yourself, whether through workplace education programs or online tutorials, can pay off.
6. Get on the same financial page as your partner.
Coordinating your spending and saving habits with your partner can not only lead to a smoother relationship, it can also mean more money in your joint bank accounts. The blogging couple Derek and Carrie Olsen of derekandcarrie.com suggest holding a monthly get-together to review finances and to share one bank account, which can ease coordination. They also advocate developing a five-year plan, which can help guide daily choices.
7. Simplify your digital life.
If you're often tempted by emails promising amazing deals and killer savings, then you might want to consider unsubscribing from the dozens of retailer email lists you may have unknowingly signed up for. The tool Unroll.Me makes it easy; with a few clicks you can either unsubscribe or opt for a daily "Rollup" email that you can peruse at your leisure, instead of constantly getting pinged by unimportant emails all day long.
8. Prepare your money to age well.
As you get older and prepare to retire, it's important to make sure your money will last. That means ensuring your investments are in a portfolio that's aggressive enough to outpace inflation and reviewing your budget for any big leaks. You can also ask your bank what services they have in place to protect older adults from fraud
9. Learn from millennial spending habits.
Millennials might still be at the relative beginning of their financial journeys, but they have some useful habits to teach the rest of us. Young consumers who experienced the Great Recession as they were coming of age tend to be savvy shoppers, maximizing coupons and savings. They also cut costs by taking on DIY projects and prioritizing expenses that are most important to them, like travel.
10. Spend less on food.
Food might be one constant in our budgets, but there are still ways to trim those costs. Buying in bulk, cooking at home as much as possible and cooking meals that can be stored in the freezer for later are among the smart strategies. By planning meals and keeping perishable items visible at the front of your fridge, you can also help minimize waste.

Turkey Sinks Airbus In Aegean To Boost Tourism

An Airbus A300 has been sent to the bottom of the Aegean Sea in the hope it will become a diving reef and revive the Turkish tourism industry.
The 47-ton plane, which was bought from a private company for about £64,295 was submerged on Saturday off the coast of Kusadasi, according to Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency.
Its journey began in Istanbul in April, where the 54m aircraft was divided into parts and taken by truck to the seaside resort town in western Turkey.
Divers and cranes then lowered the 36-year-old plane into the sea, as people and passing ships stopped to watch.
Two-and-a-half hours later, the plane was 75ft underneath the surface, where it is hoped it will lure fish and tourists in droves.
It comes as Turkey's tourism industry suffers due to security concerns and its worsening relationship with Russia, which forms a key part of the market.

How to Attract your Destiny Helpers

                                          Image result for Destiny Helpers
SCRIPTURE: Mark 2; 1-5
And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.
When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.”
NOTE:
The man with palsy had to get to Jesus for healing but the problem was that he was incapacitated. How will he reach his breakthrough? He needed destiny helpers. And the bible said that some men came and carried him to the destination of his miracle.
There are people that God has positioned this year to carry you to your miracle. People that God has ordained to help and assist you this year. You will find them in Jesus name
HOW TO ATTRACT YOUR DESTINY HELPERS
Revelation from Mark 2:1-5
For you to attract your destiny helpers this year, consider the following:
1.       Who is in your house? Verse 1
The Bible said that Jesus came to Capernaum after some days and it was noised that Jesus was in the house.
-Who occupies your house this year determines if you are going to attract your destiny helpers.
 - The question is who occupies you house? Is it anger, fornication and adultery, stealing, lies or is it Jesus Christ?
2. Fellowship with Jesus is a hallmark for favour Verse 2.
 - The people did not only hear about Jesus being in the house, they sought to fellowship with him. A lot of people just blab about knowing Jesus. The question is do you have a relationship with him? If you must attract your destiny helpers this year, you must have a relationship with Him.
3. Don’t despise the human factor Verse 3
 - You observed that it was the man’s friends or probably relatives that carried him to Jesus.
-I discovered that when God wants to bless a man, He uses a man and when the devil wants to          undo a man, he uses a man. Man is always the common factor.
 - A lot of people have despised and terminated God-given relationships that would have opened doors for them into their destinies; thereby missing their destiny helpers.
4. Faith and desperation: Verse 4
 - This is another very important factor if your must attract your destiny helpers.
 - Your faith in God this year must be dogged.
 - These men met the house full with no way to access Jesus. They tore the roof open
-This is what I call dogged faith.
5. You must mix your faith with action; Verse 4
  - Listen brother, your faith must be standing and not seating down.
-A lot of Christians say, “I have faith” without doing anything about their faith.
-The Bible said there was a press because of the crowd.
  - There will definitely be a press but are you ready to go against all odds?
-These men couldn’t access Jesus with this sick man but did not take no for an answer.
  - You don’t try a venture once and quit.
6. You must carry out his instruction. Verse 11
-Every miracle is tied to an instruction
7. You must stay out of sin.  Verse 5
- Jesus told the sick man your sins are forgiven, that means his sin had a connection with his sickness
-Jesus had to address his sins first before his infirmity.

PRAYER POINTS:
1.        Anointing to attract my destiny helpers fall on me now in Jesus name.
2.       Lord anything in me that will repel my destiny helpers this year, die in Jesus name.
3.       Lord visit me this year by fire in Jesus
4.   This year must be better than last year in Jesus name
5.   Father I will not labour and another reap the fruit of my labour
6.    I must eat the fruit of my labour this year in Jesus name.
7.    Every delay this year I bind you in Jesus name.

3 Signs That You Are Falling Into Infidelity

                       Image result for Infidelity
There are three signs that indicate that you may have crossed the line into infidelity:
1) Emotional intimacy. Do you find yourself sharing more of your feelings and thoughts with your female friend than with your wife? 3 S

2) Sexual tension. You instinctively know when it is present. Huge red flag. Don’t rationalize it away.
3) Secrecy. Do you close your email window when you wife walks by? Do you leave out details of your day because they include encounters with your friend? The minute you fudge anything about your relationship with your female friend, you’ve stepped over the line.
If you see any of these signs, it’s time to re-evaluate your friendship with that other woman. You may need be broaden your boundaries in order to avoid any temptation in the future.

Love Versus Infatuation

Image result for Love Versus Infatuation
Finally, you have met him or her. You know what I mean, the one. All your life, or so it seems, you have been waiting for the person who made your heart pound, made the stars bright, and taken over all reasonable thought processes with ideas of making love on every beach from here to Tahiti.

You have a weird expression on your face, food suddenly seems like a mere inconvenience and sleep is just something you used to do. Your friends tease you about being in love. Your mother WARNS you about being in love.

Of course, you’re not stupid. You’ve been around (more than Mom knows about), and you have spent time in meditation/therapy having explored your own needs in the world. You want a soul mate but this guy/gal is just so sexy that it’s hard to imagine introducing him/her to your parents at all.

Going Public

So, things are going well and you are looking toward the next step, becoming an item. Going public. Everyone knows and invites you as a couple. People you know speculate about the future of your relationship. But the future means forever when it comes to commitment, so how do you know if this is really a good thing?

Are people whispering about how happy they are for you, or are they wondering if you should be committed yourself (like in a secure mental health facility)? And how about yourself? Do you feel comfortable with your newest love interest or do you just want to feel comfortable with someone? Is this the person that you want to spend your life with or are you just afraid to march into the future alone?

These very large questions deserve great considerations. The passions of new love are so entwined in our own emotional makeup, that it seems impossible to find objective considerations when proceeding along love’s thorny paths. So, for the purposes of this discussion, let us define love and infatuation so each can be thought about in a more organized manner.

Love is Forever Changing

Love as a dynamic process. For me, that means that there is a relationship that flexes, changes and grows as people mature, experience happens upon them, priorities and dreams are built and goals are met. Love brings out the best in people as individuals. The relationship between them becomes the way they define their lives. As jobs, careers, and family concerns change, people are able to work as a team to be understanding and flexible so the relationship (their lives) will flourish.

Dynamic process of love equals a sharing of emotion, trust, and growth of relationship. Growth is increasing ability of a couple to live symbiotically, enjoy each others company, trust each other with more secrets, depend on each other in more crises over the years, in raising children and taking care of aging relatives. It’s about growing old together, and long-term investments like real estate and children.

Is it Just Infatuation?

So what about infatuation? That’s when you think of someone all the time, you go out of your way to be around him/her, and you begin to center your priorities around him/her as well. There is history with this person: Maybe a short history, but maybe quite a while. You both enjoy being together. You both daydream about each other and get all crawly in your underwear. But is it love? I mean, you hate to be wrong about this kind of thing, especially if you have in mind perhaps reproducing together (or maybe if you forget to think about it just once).

Infatuation as are defining it here, is a static process characterized by an unrealistic expectation of blissful passion without positive growth and development. Characterized by a lack of trust, lack of loyalty, lack of commitment, lack of reciprocity, an infatuation is not necessarily foreplay for a love scenario. People, however, have many reasons for making commitments.

Most people are infatuated with their love partners to a certain degree. People who are in love think of their partners periodically when they are apart (some more than others). Men seem to be better, in general, in compartmentalizing their lives, thereby putting thoughts of loved ones aside until the mind is free to dwell on life. And yes, there are many exceptions and many ranges within the genders.

Knowing the Difference?

So how do you know? The question, actually is simple, the answer, however, is not easy to own or accept. And here it is: Does this relationship bring out the best in both of you?
This is the part where you get to assess and evaluate yourself and your partner, and your relationship honestly.

Though difficult, evaluating how things are going at regular intervals can help to give some direction (and re-direct misdirection) to people who are self-guided toward happiness and success. For those who are on a negative course, people who are unhappy,
confused and perhaps self-sabotaging, regular evaluation can point out some hard truths about oneself, and/or about the person you want to take the next step with.

While you try to evaluate whether or not it is the real thing, here are some things to consider:

Are you happy? That would be a yes or no. When you wake up, are you glad to be alive? Are you grateful for the blessings that you receive daily, like being alive and loved? Are you loved and treated as a person of value? Does his or her mother know about you?

Is your life on a positive track? Do you have hope for the future? Do you have dreams and work toward them all the time? Is your life better because your boy/girlfriend is in it? Really?

Are you in this relationship alone? Having someone on your arm makes life less complicated. You get a built in escort and date. Most people seem to think and feel better as part of a pair. There is a sense of social relief as well meaning family and friends stop trying to fix you up. Are you thinking and planning as a pair? Do you automatically consider both of your plans for the weekend, or merely anticipate maybe meeting up sometime? Have you postponed or given up your hopes and dreams for the relationship or have you restructured your dreams together?
 Determining the Difference

The answers, and the courage to face the facts is the key to making the determination. In infatuation, your gaze, your thoughts and maybe your world revolves around someone. You have blinders on. It seems that all the world pales in comparison to this person’s looks, talents, intelligence, creativity, etc. What you might not see by keeping the blinders on, what can be serious flaws in any relationship, are the destructive traits and behaviors that degrade self esteem and cause some pretty negative effects on one’s choices and decisions.

Many have had the experience of looking back at some early romance, in middle or high school perhaps, when we were “in love” with a special teacher, or camp counselor. It can be easier to see in retrospect, what you weren’t ready to see at the time. Your thoughts of
romance were simply an innocent fantasy: An infatuation that felt like love at the time.

Aside from your age, what was it about you that made you make that mistake. Innocence? Loneliness?: A longing to grow up, maybe. But those were things going on in your head. In fact, these feelings had little to do with the actual object of your infatuation (crush). It could be that some of those same feelings and needs exist for you today. Beware of your own vulnerability, and your own desire to “get rescued” from that solitary life of the unpaired.

In time, the faults that you refuse to see will begin to come to the foreground. You may be infatuated with a rich and powerful person, but as you come to know that person on a more intimate basis, the qualities that intrigued you will begin to fade into the background.

In the case of love, your focus is on your special someone, and that someone exists in the real world. Give and take, compromise and cooperation are characteristics of love relationships. Working toward common goals, sharing dreams and values define the dynamics of a good love relationship. People know each other on a separate and private level than the world at large.

Bringing it Into Reality

Infatuation can even be thought of as love with only 2 dimensions. With love, that third dimension is reality. So, it is actually your ability to tell what is real in a relationship, versus what is imagined. You love being part of a couple, but is this the person you want to be in a couple with?

Look at the reality of who this person is, not who she/he wants to be. Do you always interact over dinner and drinks? Meet under different circumstances. Become part of each other’s lives. If that is not happening, why not? Are you spending and enjoying time together? What happens when you’re apart? Are you sure?

Trying to differentiate your love interest from your lust interest is requires a level head and the courage to face the unpleasant. It also requires maturity and the ability to take a step back and survey the big picture. The result is more control and confidence as you stride your way in love’s direction.

Hillary Clinton has clinched the Democratic nomination for US president after reaching the required number of delegates, an AP tally suggests.
The count puts Mrs Clinton on 2,383 - the number needed to make her the presumptive nominee.

Mrs Clinton reached the threshold with a big win in Puerto Rico and a burst of last-minute support from superdelegates, AP said late on Monday night

Warsaw hospital shutting down four wards amid strike

Four wards have been shut down for now at Warsaw’s Children’s Memorial Health Institute, where nurses are staging an ongoing strike, the hospital’s director said on Monday.
Małgorzata Syczewska, the head of the Institute, said that the patients from the four wards have already been transferred to other hospitals.
“It was a tough decision, but it was the only one we could make in this situation,” she added.
It marks the 14th day of an ongoing strike at the Warsaw’s Children’s Memorial Health Institute, one of the country’s foremost paediatric hospitals. The protesting nurses are demanding higher pay and increase in staff numbers.
The hospital authorities claim that the maximum pay rise they can offer is PLN 250 (EUR 67) a month. Nurses have called for twice that amount.
Deputy Health Minister Marek Tombarkiewicz is taking part in the talks held at the hospital.
On Monday morning he said that shutting down of some of the wards would be “a last resort.”
The hospital authorities warn that the longer the strike continues, the more wards are at risk of being closed
