California will raise the smoking age to 21 and regulate popular
vaping products the same as cigarettes under sweeping antitobacco
legislation signed by Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday.
Under the bills, the state will become the second in
the nation to raise the smoking age from 18 to 21. The five bills signed
by the governor Wednesday will go into effect June 9.
“This is a huge victory for public health in
California and a big hit to Big Tobacco’s ongoing efforts to addict a
new generation to the neurotoxins of nicotine,” said Sen.Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, who authored the bill signed by Brown that regulates e-cigarettes the same as tobacco products.
Facing a midnight deadline to act on six antitobacco
bills, Brown signed all but one. He did not offer comments on the bills
he signed, which include legislation to increase the licensing fee on
tobacco products and expand smoke-free laws to workplaces and charter
schools previously exempt.

Production began after more than 25 years of exploratory, appraisal and
developmental activities in the field, making Lagos — Nigeria’s
commercial capital — an oil-producing state.
Nigeria’s oil and gas industry is concentrated in the southern delta
states but the region has been dogged by unrest and disruption from
militants demanding a fairer share of revenue.

“A few years ago our friend Terrilynn went through a terrible tragedy
when her twenty-two-year-old son was murdered at college. One of the
young men who were involved in the
murder was convicted and about to be sentenced. Just before the
sentencing date, Terrilynn encountered the truth. Despite her grief, she
came to a conviction: “if I had only one month to live, I would want to
forgive everyone, including my son’s murderer.” When the time came
for the ruling, the judge asked Terrilynn if she wanted to say anything
to the man who was involved in her son’s murder. She stood up in the
court room and read aloud the most beautiful letter of forgiveness. She
looked at the young man who took her son’s life and said, “I choose to
forgive you for my own healing because I see Jesus standing next to you,
begging me to forgive you. And if you become a saver of lives instead
of a destroyer of lives, then my son’s death won’t be in vain.” The
judge was stunned. He asked if he could have a copy of her letter and
said that all his years on the bench, he had never heard such a powerful
statement.
The young man
broke down in tears and said he wanted to hug Terrilynn. She soon began
to visit him in prison and mentor him. Over time he made a faith
commitment to Christ and today is growing in his new walk with God.
When Terrilynn was asked how she did that in the court room, she
replied, “I didn’t know if I would be able to do it, but when I stood up
in the courtroom, God gave me strength.”
If God can give
Terrilynn the strength to forgive her son’s murderer, then He can give
you the strength to let go of your hurts so you can embrace His healing.
Put down your spear, revenge does more harm than good.

Real Madrid Beat Manchester City 1-0 to set up an all
Spanish final for the second time in three seasons after a first-half
own goal from Fernando was enough to secure a narrow win that barely
reflected Real’s dominant display.
Man City had made a bright start but their early momentum was halted in its
tracks as captain and centre back, Vincent Kompany, was forced off with a
muscle injury after nine minutes, handing the initiative to the hosts,
who quickly went on the offensive.
City looked slightly overawed as they handed territory to Real Madrid
who punished them when Bale picked up Dani Carvajal’s pass and aimed a
cross towards the far post that was deflected by Fernando past Joe Hart
into the top corner.
The linesman’s flag prevented City falling further behind when Pepe
stabbed into the net only for his effort to be ruled out for offside,
while City’s only glimpse of goal in the first half came when
Fernandinho’s effort clipped the post.
Madrid continued to dominate after the break, but found a second goal
elusive as Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo failed to convert chances,
while Bale’s header hit the crossbar.
