Robbery Attacks: Residents Of Calabar Resort To Jungle Justice
Compiled by Ekemini Ekwere
There has been numerous reports of theft in the capital city of Cross River State since the beginning of 2016. Criminals have been attacking and dispossessing residents of Calabar and environments.
The recurring robbery activity has forced residents to organise vigilante groups to secure their streets and neighbourhood.
And as expected, when security is in the hands of people who are not trained in security issues, extra-judicial killings and jungle justice becomes the order of the day, and that is what is happening in Calabar currently.
Over twenty criminals have been apprehended and lynched by various vigilante groups in the past few months. The year 2016 opened with the lynching of two female robbery suspects and their male accomplice.Just this morning,22nd of April 2016,another person who attempted to snatch N1.5 million from a woman was caught and dealt with.
The suspect said to be undergraduates was battered and stripped naked at Murtala Mohammed Highway/ Atekong Drive and before the police arrived, the young man who was inflicted with a deep machete cut on his forehead had died and was set ablaze and was thrown on the road side.

A resident of Uwanse, Mr. Akpan
Udo-Ekpo told Crime Guard that they decided to confront the criminals
since the number of hoodlums has increased tremendously in the city.
“These boys have become too many and the police cannot be everywhere, so
we have to combat them ourselves if we must live in peace in this
city,”he said.
Mr. Udo-Ekpo said before now, they
used to apprehend criminals and hand them over to the police but such
hoodlums later find their way out and return to terrorize people.
Another resident, Moses Etim said they decided to form vigilante
groups to tackle the high crime rate in the area to protect themselves.
“We formed vigilante to protect ourselves from these criminals and we will continue to do so until we have peace.”
The Daily Rituals of 7 Successful CEOs
Oprah Winfrey
One of my favorite success quotes ever comes from one of the original and most successful ‘CEOs’ of his era: Aristotle. Here’s what he said:
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
This advice is just as sound today as it was when Aristotle first expressed it, way back when. I’m reminded of this at least once a week, when I interview an inspiring author, leader, or successful CEO on my show. I ask my guests a series of questions about what has contributed to their success and their ability to build something meaningful.
You want to know what nearly all of them say? Almost every time, they respond by telling me that their success is the result of simple habits enacted day after day.
These quotes from seven successful CEOs demonstrate the daily rituals that have contributed to their success:
1. Promote what you love.
“It’s so much better to promote what you love than to bash what you hate.” – Jessica Alba, CEO of The Honest Company
2. Develop a feedback loop.
“I think it’s very important to have a feedback loop, where you’re constantly thinking about what you’ve done and how you could be doing it better. I think that’s the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself.” – Elon Musk, CEO of TESLA Motors
3. Create things that are better, not just “different.”
“Our task today is to find singular ways to create the new things that will make the future not just different, but better—to go from 0 to 1. The essential first step is to think for yourself. Only by seeing our world anew, as fresh and strange as it was to the ancients who saw it first, can we both re-create it and preserve it for the future.” – Peter Thiel, CEO of Palantir and best-selling author of Zero to One
4. Meditate.
“Meditate. Breathe consciously. Listen. Pay attention. Treasure every moment. Make the connection.” – Oprah Winfrey, CEO of OWN Network
5. Read every day.
“Read 500 pages every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up like compound interest.”-Warren Buffet, CEO of investment firm Berkshire-Hathaway
6. Block time for email.
“Set aside a 20- to 30-minute chunk of time two or three times a day for email. Do not check continually through the day.” – Doug Camplejohn, CEO of predictive lead marketing company Fliptop.
7. Make your customers happy.
“We see our customers as invited guests to a party, and we are the hosts. It’s our job every day to make every important aspect of the customer experience a little bit better.” – Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon.com.
Develop the right rituals. Become a successful CEO.
If the majority of these daily habits are new to you, avoid making the crucial mistake of adopting all of these habits at once.Research on habit-foundation indicates that lasting habits are formed one at a time. For example, let’s say you’re excited about developing the following daily habits:
- daily reading,
- daily meditation, and
- updating your to-do list every night
Set a goal for yourself
"Time is limited. If I can make good use of it, I'll be much more successful. So I'm going to be more productive."

5 Simple Ways To Increase Your Intelligence
Your brain needs exercise just like a muscle. If you use it often and in the right ways, you will become a more skilled thinker and increase your ability to focus. But if you never use your brain, or abuse it with harmful chemicals, your ability to think and learn will deteriorate.
Here are 5 simple ways anyone can squeeze a bit more productivity out of the old gray matter.
1. Minimize Television Watching – This is a hard sell. People love vegetating in front of the television, myself included more often than I’d like. The problem is watching television doesn’t use your mental capacity OR allow it to recharge. It’s like having the energy sapped out of a muscle without the health benefits of exercise.
Don’t you feel drained after a couple hours of TV? Your eyes are sore and tired from being focused on the light box for so long. You don’t even have the energy to read a book.
When you feel like relaxing, try reading a book instead. If you’re too tired, listen to some music. When you’re with your friends or family, leave the tube off and have a conversation. All of these things use your mind more than television and allow you to relax.
2. Exercise – I used to think that I’d learn more by not exercising and using the time to read a book instead. But I realized that time spent exercising always leads to greater learning because it improves productivity during the time afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a wave of energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can concentrate more easily.
3. Read Challenging Books – Many people like to read popular suspense fiction, but generally these books aren’t mentally stimulating. If you want to improve your thinking and writing ability you should read books that make you focus. Reading a classic novel can change your view of the world and will make you think in more precise, elegant English. Don’t be afraid to look up a word if you don’t know it, and don’t be afraid of dense passages. Take your time, re-read when necessary, and you’ll soon grow accustomed to the author’s style.
Once you get used to reading challenging books, I think you’ll find that you aren’t tempted to go back to page-turners. The challenge of learning new ideas is far more exciting than any tacky suspense-thriller.
4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Nothing makes it harder to concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be most rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don’t sleep more than 8 hours. If you stay up late and compensate by sleeping late, you’ll wake up lethargic and have trouble focusing. In my experience the early morning hours are the most tranquil and productive. Waking up early gives you more productive hours and maximizes your mental acuity all day.
If you have the opportunity, take 10-20 minute naps when you are hit with a wave of drowsiness. Anything longer will make you lethargic, but a short nap will refresh you.
5. Take Time to Reflect – Often our lives get so hectic that we become overwhelmed without even realizing it. It becomes difficult to concentrate because nagging thoughts keep interrupting. Spending some time alone in reflection gives you a chance organize your thoughts and prioritize your responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better understanding of what’s important and what isn’t. The unimportant stuff won’t bother you anymore and your mind will feel less encumbered.
I’m not saying you need to sit on the floor cross-legged and chant ‘ommm’. Anything that allows a bit of prolonged solitude will do. One of my personal favorites is taking a solitary walk. Someone famous said, “All the best ideas occur while walking.” I think he was on to something. Experiment to find the activity that works best for you.
Conclusion – I hope you aren’t disappointed that none of the techniques I’ve proposed are revolutionary. But simple, unexciting answers are often the most valid. The challenge is having the will to adhere to them. If you succeed in following these 5 tips, you’ll be rewarded with increased mental acuity and retention of knowledge.

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down giving his assent to the 2016 budget, citing irregularities which needed to be corrected before his signature on the budget indicating its approval for the 2016 fiscal year.
This is the first time the Nigerian
budget has passed through series of upheavals beginning with the process
of planning the budget through to it disappearing into thin air and
resurfacing and now being rejected by the President for various
anomalies.
Nigerians continue to wonder when the
budget will be put to use considering the fact that the first quarter of
the year has expired and the Nigerian government is still on the
embattled budget.
President Buhari has demanded adjustment to some areas which he
considers are germane to his government, hence the continuous rejection.
