Kenyan Court orders Prof Thairu to resign as CUE chairman

                                    
A Nairobi court has ordered Commission for University Education chairman Henry Thairu to resign from his position in 10 days.

This follows an application lodged by lawyer Felix Mategei, who argued that the educationist was holding two public offices at the same time.

Prof Thairu holds another position as a lecturer and director of a consulting services unit at Kenyatta University, in contravention of the Constitution, since the position is a full-time administrative job.

The petition was heard before Justice Joseph Onguto.

Election 2016:Donald Trump accused of Cuba embargo breach

                               
Hillary Clinton says presidential rival Donald Trump appears to have violated US laws, after a report said he broke a trade embargo with Cuba.
 It reports that Mr Trump's company secretly conducted business in Cuba, violating the US trade embargo against the country.
The company allegedly spent at least $68,000 (£52,300) in Cuba in 1998.
Mr Trump's spokesman Kellyanne Conway said he did not end up investing in Cuba.
Mr Trump has also repeatedly said he had rejected offers to invest in Cuba.
It was reported that Mr Trump's company funnelled the cash through a US consulting firm to make it appear legal.
Mrs Clinton said: "We have laws in our country, and the efforts that Trump was making to get into the Cuban market - putting his business interests ahead of the laws of the United States and the requirements that businesses were operating under with sanctions shows that he puts his personal and business interests ahead of the laws and values and the policies of the United States of America."

"This is something they're going to have to give a response to," said Marco Rubio, the Cuban-American senator from Florida who has endorsed Mr Trump. "I mean, it was a violation of American law, if that's how it happened.
"I hope the Trump campaign is going to come forward and answer some questions about this, because if what the article says is true - and I'm not saying that it is, we don't know with 100% certainty - I'd be deeply concerned about it," he told a podcast hosted by ESPN and ABC.

SHOCKING: I was drunk when I raped my daughter – Father

                                   

A trader, Uchena Elumadu, 49, who allegedly raped his daughter in the Agege area of Lagos State, has said he was drunk the first time he raped her.

Elumadu said his friends made him drunk that night.

It was reported that the Imo State indigene raped his first child at their home on Martins Street, new Oko Oba, Agege, each time his wife was not around.

He was said to have administered drug on her each time he slept with her  to prevent pregnancy.

Elumadu, who was paraded before pressmen on Friday after he was arrested, said he had only raped his daughter twice.

He said, “I don’t know what came over me. I have only raped her twice. My wife doesn’t know I have been doing this. I first slept with her sometime last year.

“That day, I had gone for a naming ceremony and I was drunk. My friend had abused me that I always took non-alcoholic drinks and I should try a little alcohol. It was the little I took that made me misbehave.  The second time, I was in the house with my wife when I sneaked into the room and raped her.

“I was not the one that deflowered her. When I slept with her the first time and I asked why she was not a virgin, she could not answer me. I have committed a great sin and I have asked God to forgive my wrong.”

The state Commissioner of Police,  Fatai Owoseni, said the suspect would be charged to court.

Nigeria sets up committee to remove illegal speed bumps on highways

                                    
The National Council on Works has approved the constitution of a task force to sensitize Nigerians and facilitate the removal of illegal and inappropriate speed bumps from Nigerian roads.
The task force will also determine the correct location and types of speed bumps to be erected on the nation’s highways.
This formed part of memoranda submitted by the Federal Road Safety Corps and the resolutions arising from the 22nd meeting of the National Council on Works in Katsina State with the theme “Prioritization and Optimization of Allocated Infrastructure Funds”.
According to the council, most of the road traffic crashes which occur on the highways could be traced to the presence of inappropriate speed bumps which do not comply with contemporary global standards on road markings and signages.
 The council therefore endorsed the constitution of a special task force to be led by the Federal Controllers of Works in each state, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police, State Traffic Management Agencies and affected communities to sensitize and facilitate removal of illegal and inappropriate speed bumps from Nigerian highways.

BREAKING NEWS:Anger in PDP camp As INEC Declares Obaseki Winner

                            
Jubilation erupted in Benin City, the Edo State capital, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday declared Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressive Congress (APC) winner in the Edo State governorship election conducted across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Obaseki defeated the PDP candidate in a tight race, garnering a total of 319, 483 votes against the 253,173 votes polled by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The election was generally adjudged to be peaceful.
Earlier before the final announcement of the result, the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, at a press conference, announced its rejection the outcome of result as collation was ongoing and alleged that INEC and the Edo State government had fabricated the results as announced in favour of the APC.
Shortly after the result was announced by the chief returning officer, PDP agent, Prof Kayode Soremekun, Chris Agbonwanagbe, and the agent of Young Democratic Party (YDP), Mr Memeh Samuel Agbonwanegbe said his decision not to append his signature to the result sheet was on the order by the leadership of his party while Memeh of YDP said the election was marred with irregularities.
As soon as the result was announced, heavy rainfall greeted the victory of the APC in Benin City.
