Dear Grooms: it’s not all about getting up, putting on your clothes and
getting a lift to the ceremony venue, although that does help too. Here
are those things you
cannot forget on your wedding day if you’re a groom!
An alarm
It might sound like an obvious thing for a groom to do, but setting
your alarm the night before the big day might be forgotten in the midst
of the wedding-related nerves and excitement.
If you’re not a morning-person, maybe set a couple of alarms… and
maybe get your groomsmen on your case, too. Nothing wakes you up quite
like your best friends jumping on you and shouting in your ear. Plus,
you can’t hit the snooze button on them either.
Breakfast
Even if you’re not a breakfast person, or even if nerves have
affected your appetite, you’ve gotta eat your breakfast! It’s important
to set yourself up for the day. The noise of your stomach rumbling isn’t
something that you, your bride and your wedding guests would expect at
the altar.
Not only that, but being a bride or groom is a busy job – you don’t
know when you might be able to eat next. Those canapés you carefully
selected might be gone in a matter of seconds whilst you’re busy
chatting.
Treat your soon-to-be wife
On the morning of your wedding, when you and your bride are getting
ready separately, it’s a really nice idea to treat her. Get her a little
gift for her to open on the morning! What about a perfume that she can
wear for the day? This way, any time she wears it again, it will bring
her back to your wedding day! The same goes for a little piece of
jewellery, but be careful not to clash it with the jewellery she’s
already got.
Another idea that we absolutely LOVE is writing your soon-to-be wife a
letter that she can open before she’s walking down to you at the end of
the aisle. Fill it with reasons why you love her and your favourite
memories that your share – it will be something she treasures forever,
for sure.
Look your best
Again, this might seem obvious but looking your best
does take
a bit of preparation. It might mean getting things together the night
before your big day, or setting your alarm just a little bit earlier,
but it’s worth it for the look on your bride’s face! And for you of
course – you won’t be able to get enough of checking yourself out in the
mirror.
Make a to-do list of the more last minute things you’ve got to do:
iron your shirt, shave, shower (properly!), and even learn to tie a tie
like a pro. There’s no slacking allowed when it comes to being a groom
Don’t be afraid to say no
The ‘getting ready’ part of the big day is a fun one for both the
bride and groom, and the bridal party. Most have a little drink in the
morning to celebrate the occasion, and maybe to calm the nerves. But
listen up groomy, don’t get too carried away.
It’s not a mad night out with the lads, even if there are a couple of
beers on the go – you most definitely don’t want to turn up to the
ceremony stumbling around. The same goes for the rest of the day too. A
drunken blur or a bad hangover the next day are not the ways you want to
remember your wedding, is it?
Keep hydrated
That said, drink up! But the non-alcoholic variety, please. Make sure
you’ve drank plenty in the morning, and keep a bottle of water on your
for the day. Like we said, it’s a busy job being a bride and groom.
You’ll find yourself parched from all the talking!
The rings
Whilst it’s common for one of the groomsmen to be in charge, it’s
always a good idea to make sure the rings are on the way to ceremony
yourself – even if your best man is the most trustworthy man alive. Not
even the fastest runner would be able to make forgetting the rings okay,
so be warned!
The plan
It’s something you and your b2b have been planning for months, maybe
even years! Don’t mess it up by getting the time you’re meant to turn up
wrong, or constantly asking your wifey what happens next.
Get to know the schedule for the day – be in the know! That way, your
day will run seamlessly. It might calm any nerves you’ve got, and will
probably even impress your new Mrs.
