QUALITY WELFARISM: A PANACEA FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE(a case study of moshood abiola poly)
Helen keller said "Until the great mass of the people shall be filled with the sense of responsibility for each other's welfare, social justice can never be attained"
Greatest Nigeria students, I write this piece today not to tarnish anybody image but to point out errors, and suggest possible solution, by so doing our union leaders can learn and fight for student rights.
Apart from parental care, the school has some important role to play through providing quality welfares for the students in achieving academic excellence
•INFRASTRUCTURE: I must salute the alaba-lawson led administration for its impact in the provision of infrastructure like classrooms, but its and we never be enough. Because the capacity of the building is too small compare to the number of student admitted for that course. Students don't want to come to class because there are no space, insufficient public address system in these classes, which will enable proper dissemination of information/lectures from the lecturer to the student.
•REGISTRATION; when I came into this school has a fresh student I compared how registration is done here compared to that of kwara poly it was so stressful, that most time I have to skip classes to just because I want complete my registration, we are in the computer age and I believe all accreditation/registration can be done online and they submitted to the school officers for verification. This will reduce the rate at which student skip classes, they can now resume and concentrate on academics which will boost their performances at the end of the session.
•TRANSPORTATION; students come late to class not because they want to do so, but because the transportation system is bad, the school should focus on wider road so that their will be faster access even if we have limited buses.
• STAFFS: moshood abiola polytechnic have the best staffs talking about academics in west africa, but their is a need to do more by employing more teaching staffs, so has to reduce fatigue, some times this lectures are tired and they can't really do much, their is a need for a supporter, at least two lectures to one course not one lecturer to two course.
• SEMINAR: the school should orientate the students on latest discovery based on their course from time to time, that is why it a polytechnic and not a college, students deserve more, our eyes needs to be more open,we shouldn't be limited to what has been taught 50years ago.
Lastly if the school decides to provide all these, are the students ready to learn? Are we ready to read our books? We complain that mapoly is stressful are we playing our own part? These are questions to ask our selves.
God bless mapoly
