Eaglets advance to quarter-finals, wallop Aussies 6-0


Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets early Thursday advanced to the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
The Eaglets defeated their Australian counterparts 6-0 at the 23, 000 capacity Estadio Sausalito, Vina Del Mar.It was a tough first half that saw three Eaglets players – Michael, Bamgboye and Enogela being cautioned.
 However, a hat-trick by Victor Osimhen boosted the morale of fellow teammates when he scored the first goal in the 22 minutes shortly after Bamgboye was cautioned.
In the 24 minutes, an Australian player committed a foul inside their box thus earning Nigeria a penalty that was converted to a goal in the 25 minutes by Kelechi Nwakali.
To put smile on the faces of football loving Nigerians, Osimhen, again, scored the third goal in the 73 minutes.
Again, in the 79 minutes, Osimhen, scored the fourth goal thus, making the Eaglets dream of advancing to the quarter-finals a reality.
Michael Essien scored the fifth goal in the 86 minutes while Samuel Chukwueze added another goal in the 88 minutes to confirm the Eaglets supremacy over the Aussies.
The Eaglets will now battle Brazil for a place in the semi-finals.
