Incase you are coming to Ghana, you may be pissed off with what you see,so as you enter Ghana, dont be irritated with what you see because i am now telling you.As Ghanaians we can relate to these things.
1. Paying bribe for people to do their work:
In Ghana you regularly have to pay bribe for people to do their work, for eg. getting a passport,
driver’s license, is a nightmare, you’d have to pay more than the
official charges to get it done, pay to expedite the process and also
pay more bribes to renew it when it expires … you just can’t win.
Bribery goes as far as the judiciary system where some court judges took
bribes in the form of goats(smh) and petty cash to free guilty
criminals.
2. Power cuts:
Power cuts are nothing new in Africa, but in Ghana power cuts can go for as long as 48 hours … yes!
3. Horrid Politics:In Ghana our politics stinks, if you doubt, switch on your radio in
the morning and have a taste of our “honourable” leaders going at each
other … so distasteful
4. Leaders constantly disrespecting the people:You may want to look here and see some of the absurd things Ghanaian leaders tell the people who voted them into power.
5. Lack of reliability:If a Ghanaian freelancer asks you to come back in three days for a
work-done, just know that he actually means three weeks. Tailors and
seamstresses are masters of this game.
6. Elders are always right: In Ghana, being young means you are stupid, old means wise … period!
7. Foreigners are respected than locals:You won’t believe there are places in Ghana, locals can’t go, these
places are reserved strictly for foreigners, yes in our own land …
8. Politics is the only legal means to overnight success:Every Ghanaian politician is rich whilst the rest of the country suffer.
9.Grave crimes go unpunished:Every the nation or commit crime Tom,Dick and Harry can swindle and get away with it whilst petty crimes are awarded ridiculous prison terms.
10. People spend the whole week in church and expect money to magically appear:How they expect that to work baffles me
11. Sex is a forbidden topic:… but our music and movies are full of it
12. Speaking in another man’s accent makes you exceptional:Commonly called LAFA (locally acquired foreign accent) is a common
thing on our radio stations even people who haven’t traveled to the UK
or US can speak like people who were born and raised there. Our
musicians do the same too ….
