University of Calabar lecturers have gone on strike in an attempt to demand that armed security personnel be deployed to the campus following the kidnapping of lecturers and students.
A lecturer in the School of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar (UNICAL), Dr. Stephen Ndifon and two students of the institution were kidnapped by gunmen .
The lecturer and the students were abducted by seven armed men who came in a speedboat through the Obufa Esuk River near the university staff quarters.
The lecturers say that they will not return to classes as they do not feel secure, with the inadequate security on the campus and private residences.
They implored the government to take action and provide security measures to prevent further kidnappings and ensure the safety of staff and students.
