Suspected militants from the Islamist group al-Shabaab
killed 12 people on Tuesday at a guest house in northeastern Kenya, local media
reported, citing police.
Several gunmen reportedly used explosives to attack the
Bisharo Guest House in the Mandera region on the border with Somalia. Ten
guests and a caretaker were among those killed.
The outlet quoted Mandera County commander Job Boronjo who
said at least four people were wounded and fears were that more could be
trapped under the debris. Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate based in Somalia,
has been staging attacks in neighboring Kenya for sending troops to help the
weak Somalian government in its struggle for the control of the country’s
territory with Islamists, warlords, and pirates.
