PREVENTION AGAINST RAPE PROGRAMME IN LAGOS

               BRIEF INSIGHT ON VIOLENCE AGAINST GIRLS AND WOMEN
Violence against women and girls is all too prevalent in the world, it crosses cultures, economic status and ethnicity. Violence can take many forms; domestic abuse, trafficking, rape or harmful practices such as early marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). It can occur at any time but the risk of violence increases mostly in emergency or conflict situations. Women and children become increasingly vulnerable as stability, protection, and family are replaced by chaos, stress, and displacement.
Anyone can be affected by sexual and gender based violence. Both sexes of any age could be a victim of sexual abuse/rape, but violence against women and girls is often rooted in long term behaviours and attitudes.
For young people, the teen years are all about change, they push for greater independence and their bodies mature physically and sexually. Their curiosity about sexuality increase dramatically. All of these changes can make teenagers more vulnerable to sexual harassment and sexual assault including rape and date rape. It is important to make sure that our teenagers have information and skills to help them stay safe, there is need to remind them that;
·         Sexual abuse happens to teenage girls, boys and young adult.
·         It is never their fault, if they are sexually abuse.
·         They should tell a trusted adult if they are sexually abused in anyway.
·         They need to understand what sexual harassment is and what they can do about it.
This project intend to raise awareness and follow up with actions on placing girls and their voices at the heart of discussion, addressing violence against women and girls, with focus on rape and also, addressing gender inequality by empowering girls from early age can have a powerful effect not only on girls and women, but also on society at large, yet their voices aren’t always heard.
Prevention of rape against girl child and women must start long before it occurs or before violence breaks-out in any environment or ugly area where victims are unaware of. A key part of these project is to work with public and private schools, communities, religious leaders, social associations and e.t.c on strengthening child protection system through schools and homes; protecting their right and bringing men and boys alongside as allies and advocates. We intend to raise ambassadors in each schools who will in return educate and train others, to ensure that children are seen as key actors in their own development. This means not only protecting them and supporting families, communities to provide for them but also enabling the environment where children can actively participate in making decisions that affect their wellbeing. The girl child should be well educated and informed about children’s safety through; Young Citizen Police Academy which would give a platform for their voices to be heard.
In view of this, we humbly request your support and sponsorship as part of your corporate social responsibilities to promoting a good course of protecting the coming generations and gradually eradicating criminality in our society.

CONCLUSION
We intend to carry out this project by inviting five (5) delegates of students from each private and public schools under Ojokoro LCDA and Ifako as a whole, to sensitize, orientate and inform them on tips to know on safety against rape, kidnapping, drug abuse and other criminal activity or misnomers within the society during this ONE DAY program, which we believe will impact the children, teachers, youths and raise their awareness on sensitive information.
We are optimistic that this noble event will no doubt be of good impact in rape reduction within the society and as well increase or raise awareness on society safety. So also, the project will surely raise your rising profile, as a supporter of education, children, youths and society developmental ideas or projects through youth base organizations.
