President-elect Donald Trump condemned the Islamic State,
the Ohio State attacker, and U.S. immigration policy on Wednesday, linking them
in a quick Twitter post.
"ISIS is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack
at Ohio State University by a Somali refugee who should not have been in our
country," Trump said.
The Islamic State's media arm said Tuesday that the radical
group inspired Abdul Razak Ali Artan to conduct Monday's attack at Ohio State
University that injured 11 people. A police officer killed Artan.
During the campaign, Trump called for blocking entry into
the United States by people from countries with a history of terrorism, but
provided few specifics. Opponents said Trump's plan would amount to a blanket
ban on all Muslims.
Trump issued his comment on the Ohio State incident minutes
before announcing he would hold a Dec. 15 news conference to discuss plans to
separate himself from his business interests during his term in the White
House.
