Instead, Corey Lewandowski told international reporters
that those applying for US citizenship would face stringent rules.
Speaking to the breakfast show, today: ‘What we said is if
we can’t have a full vetting, a significant vetting process then those people
shouldn’t be coming in to the United States.
He denied the campaign team ever said there would be a ban
on Muslims travelling to America.
He added: ‘It is a privilege and an honour to be a United
States citizen. It’s a high privilege, I think one of the greatest privileges
in the world.’
He later agreed with presenter Susanna Reid when she sought
to clarify that there was no ban, simply a stricter vetting process for people
travelling from countries that have experience terrorism.
The interview also saw Mr Lewandowski say that a safe zone
should be created for Syrian refugees ‘so they’re not coming into the country
and committing crimes against our citizens’.
But his comments about the Muslim ban are likely to cause
more confusion.
