Following the leadership tussle rocking the Ondo State House
of Assembly, policemen from the state police command Monday morning sealed off
the Assembly complex to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Fourteen members of the Assembly had last Friday impeached
the Speaker, Mrs Jumoke Akindele; Deputy Speaker, Mr. Fatai Olotu; and Majority
Leader, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, over allegations of financial mismanagement, which the
principal officers denied.
The lawmakers however elected Mr. Malachi Coker as the new
Speaker, Mr. Ayodele Arowele as the Deputy Speaker and Olamide George as the
Majority Leader respectively.
The event became dramatic as the two factions stormed the
Assembly to hold plenary leading to the disruption of the activities.
