Poland Marriage Law Requirements
What are the legal requirements to get married in Poland?
Legal age for marriage is 18 years for women and 21 years
for men.
Bride and Groom may not be related by blood, marriage or
adoption
Two witnesses are required.
How long do I have to be resident in Poland before I can get
married?
A notice of marriage must be posted for 21 days in order to
obtain the Certificate of No Impediment, but this can be done either in Poland
or in your country of residence.
Getting a marriage licence
You must take the papers mentioned below to your Embassy in
Poland. Once they have all the documents they will issue a Certificate of No
Impediment to Marriage in English and Polish which you can then take to a
Polish Registry Office along with your translated Birth Certificates.
In order to obtain the Certificate of No Impediment you can
apply at your local Registry Office in your country of residence or your local
Embassy in Poland.
What legal papers do I need to take with me?
Passports.
Full Birth Certificates translated into Polish by a sworn
interpreter in Poland.
Certificate of No Impediment issued by Registry Office or Embassy.
Personal Details Form.
Notice of Marriage Form, Affidavit Form (only if you live in
Poland).
NB: for UK citizens the 3 forms above can be obtained on the
British Embassy in Warsaw’s website www.britishembassy.gov.uk
If you have been divorced then the final divorce papers must
be shown.
If you are widowed then the death certificate of your
previous spouse must be shown.
