The Lagos State Government has begun demolition of shops located at the Ikeja New Garage adjacent to the popular Computer Village, Ikeja.
According to reports, no fewer than 18 shops have been demolished with heavily armed police officers supervising the operation.
This comes after the announcement by the state government to relocate the popular Ikeja Computer Village before the end of the year.
Citing its situation in a residential area – Otigba Street, and the attendant heavy gridlock – the Governor Akinwumi Ambode-led administration said it would relocate the market to the ICT Park, Katangua in Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.

“If at the end of this year, the Computer Village is not moved from that Otigba Street in Ikeja to Katangua, I will not come here next year,” Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Wasiu Anifowose, said last week.

“It is a done deal; we have held a stakeholders’ meeting with the traders and they agreed to the relocation plan.
