Metal beam ramps through windshield

Luck was on the side of a SUV driver in San Jose, California, who walked away from his vehicle on Friday with just a scratch after a metal ramp crashed through the windshield.

The huge piece of metal fell off of a truck traveling on Interstate 280 southbound, San Jose Firefighters told observeres that were there. It hit the road and bounced in the air before crashing through the windshield of the BMW X5 SUV.

The driver was able to pull off to the side of the road safely

Nigerians and the increasing destitution

Any visitor to the country does not need to look far to see the increasing destitution among Nigerians. Definitely, Nigeria’s economic dilemma is daily forcing many citizens to the fringes of human existence. While the economic hard times may have preceded the Buhari administration, the present government should also take the blame for being too slow in coming up with clear-cut policies on the way out of the quagmire.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), more than 100 million Nigerians are living on less than $1 per day out of an estimated 170 populations. That is far below the United Nations benchmark of at least $2 per day for the least deprived persons. Invariably, Nigeria’s enormous wealth has not affected positively on the well being of the citizens. Moreover, despite the massive revenue from oil, 70 percent of Nigerians still live within the poverty bracket, which means that the present and successive governments have been unable to translate the country’s huge natural resources to the improvement of the citizens’ living standard.
All indices point to the fact that the alarming increase in poverty is attributable to poor governance. Evidence of terribly poor governance is palpable, as it manifests in the corrupt, inept political leadership and weak civil institutions to dilapidated infrastructure. We deplore the increasing destitution in the country. It is sad that while many Nigerians are living in grinding poverty in an oil-rich country, a privileged few wallow in opulence. We call on the government to take mitigating action and bring the alarming situation under control.
A scenario where only a few are benefiting from the common patrimony while the vast majority is excluded may likely breed social discontent if not well and quickly addressed.
It is a truism that inadequate economic growth is the main cause of poverty in Nigeria, as the economy has a very narrow and weak base, depending mostly on exportation of petroleum crude oil for revenue, even as the agricultural base has been frustrated and marginalised.
In addition, growing unemployment has also exacerbated the level of destitution among Nigerians, while other factors include problems in the productive sector, widening income inequality, social conflict, including gender, intersectoral and environmental issues. There is no gainsaying the fact that poverty especially in the urban area has been made severe by low labour absorption capacity of the nonagricultural sector, especially manufacturing, which is because of limited growth of investment and technological innovation.
Arguably, enough has not been done to fight destitution in the country and the conditions that will give Nigerians the opportunity to earn decent and honest living remain a tall dream.
The embarrassing paradox of destitution in Nigeria suggests the compelling need for a single-minded pursuit of the objective of poverty reduction and its eventual elimination. We therefore call on all governments to step up the template for true development by re-energising all the poverty alleviation programmes geared towards improving the living standard of the less vulnerable. In this way, millions of Nigerians would move out of poverty and wanton lack,and to a more productive engagement in which all the basic necessities of life are met.

Amaechi approves PH-Aba mass transit train service

Transport Minister of the Fedral Republic of Nigeria, Hon. Rotimi Ameachi, on Monday, described train services in different parts of Nigeria as one that needs urgent improvement, while facilities must be urgently overhaul to attract passengers.
He also approved the immediate commencement of mass transit train service between Port Harcourt and Aba as part of the positive change in the transportation sector the ministry is set to achieve under the new administration.
The statement said further that “going by the economic potentials of Port Harcourt and Aba in commerce, tourism and industrialisation, there is hope for proactive economic growth and virile positive change in the lives of the citizenry in the two benefitting states.”

The train service is scheduled to run four trips daily from Monday to Saturday with the train departing Aba at 05:00 am to arrive Port Harcourt at 7:15 am same day.

The Shocking Pagan Origin behind CHRISTMAS

What is the TRUE ORIGIN of Christmas? Where did it come from? Did you know that the Lord Jesus Christ the Messiah was born nowhere NEAR December 25, but that was the "birth day" of the sun- god, "Sol Invictus" or "Mithras"? Did you know December 25 was the concluding day of the pagan winter festival called the "Saturnalia"? Where did "Santa Claus" or "Father Christmas" come from? The "Christmas tree"? How did this pagan feast become connected with "Christianity"? Here is an amazing "whale of a tale"

Although the whole world celebrates Christmas as a "Christian" holiday, including millions of non-Christians, is Christmas really "Christian" at all? Consider this fact: Look high and low throughout the pages of the Bible, and you will find not ONE WORD of "Christmas" being celebrated by any of God's people! It is not even mentioned once! Neither the Messiah nor any of his apostles ever observed this holiday, nor the New Testament Church!

Yet on the other hand the pagan, heathen world observed this day for thousands of years before the Messiah was even born!

Where did the mysterious rites and ceremonies that surround this day come from? What about the "Christmas tree" and the "Yule log" and the mistletoe and Holly wreaths? Are ANY of these customs truly "Christian" in origin? And what about fat and jolly old "Saint Nick" -- or Santa Claus?

It's high time we addressed these questions, and took a new look at "Christmas." A church I was formerly a member of, which condemned Christmas observance as paganism, for almost sixty years, today has turned its back on its former beliefs, and encourages its members to observe this pagan mid-winter festival "in honor of Christ"! Many are doing so, heedless of the severe warnings in Scripture of what their eternal fate and destiny will be if they continue to embrace this ancient custom.
