If your New Year's resolution is to stop smoking, you're in luck. It's
easier than ever to kick butt. We talked to a psychologist, a doctor and
a smoking cessation program director for the latest and greatest ways
to quit smoking, so 2016 will be your healthiest year yet.
Keep a tally
Remember how many cigarettes you haven’t smoked since you gave up and keep a record. Work out how much money you’ve saved too
Prepare the pantry
Hunger cravings feel very similar to cravings for cigarettes.
Get some healthy snacks ready (soup in this cold weather is perfect) so that your tummy is full and you have fewer cravings
Share experiences
Get online and share your feelings and thoughts about quitting with others.Sharing can be a great way of giving and receiving tips on quitting.
Keep fidgeting
Missing something in your hands? Use blue tack or a stress ball to keep your hands busy and the urge to smoke will pass
Get downloading
Download an app or a game on your smartphone. This helps to distract yourself when you get an urge.
Take a drink
Slowly drink a cool glass of
water or low calorie drink over three or four minutes. By the time you
have finished, your urge to smoke will have gone.
Treat yourself
Buy yourself a treat to remind you how well you are doing – you should be proud of your hard work and determination at quitting!
Read the holy book
Whether you are a christian or a muslim,get the holy book and meditate on the words of God.it will remove the idea of smoking.
Keep your mouth busy
Get some sugar free mints or chewing gum to keep the mouth fresh – it can help overcome urges by keeping the mouth busy
Meet a counsellor.
You know that you need help,meet your pastor or imam who is not judgmental.someone who you see as a father and discuss it with him,he will help you out with sweet words of encouragement and counseling.
