Ukraine's healthcare ministry announces flu epidemic

More than a dozen people become victims of deadly virus in Ukrainian capital alone.Already,the death toll of the flu epidemic in Ukraine continues to rise. According to the latest data of Healthcare Ministry 83 people across Ukraine have already died a result of complications after flu.
"The epidemic threshold is exceeded in 18 regions of Ukraine, furthermore in 11 regions the epidemic threshold is exceeded by 50%," Ukraine's Healthcare Minister Oleksandr Kvitashvili said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday, January 26.
According to Kivitashvili, the total number of people, who were infected with flu this season is 2.6 million.
Alongside the usual flu strains that circulate seasonally, this year Ukraine is battling the outbreak of the deadly H1N1 virus, known also as swine flu. Medics say it is more dangerous, and carries a higher risk of complications that can develop very quickly in comparison to other strains.
